I heard painting while being tumble dried is the best way to get shit done.

Drawing on paper is really interesting while under the influence of alcohol imho. I wouldn't recommend it for its unsafe health risks, but it's something worth experimenting.

Juhu, that study is amazing. The guy got really creative toward the end. Coincidentally, I've always been extremely interested in medical studies of the past and how utterly barbaric and often grotesque they seem in contrast to today's procedures -- specifically the 1950's era...

As for Drawing under the influence, I typically have a beer or two in the evening before painting and it doesn't effect me whatsoever -- but I can't say I've ever drawn while drunk. I get way too excitable while drunk to actually sit down and get anything done. Given the lack of hand-eye-coordination (and the fact that unlike some drugs, alcohol usually takes away creativity) I don't really think it's worth a try.

See and be warned. Bottle of wine or two later and instead of wooden napkin ring with elephant on top, I get psychedelic woolly mammoth.

Thanks for the replies, folks. I thought this would be interesting. I apologize if I offended anybody with this thread. Drawing and painting is serious work, but I like to experiment a little.

Anyways, I got absolutely nothing done last night!! An altered state-of-consciousness seems like an okay idea for thumbnailing/brainstorming, but I think its safe to say that a nice clean brain is the best for finished work and studies.

This thread has been done several times before in here, and the acid-trial pops up within the first five posts every time... I suggest you use the search function and look through those threads, there is quite a bit of interesting discussion going on, but they deteriorate into the legalize weed/pro-drug/drugs are bad argument after a while.

Also, that acid-test thing MIGHT be valid, such test were likely carried out extensivly during MK-ULTRA and other such projects, however, I wouldn't trust the accompanying text, this is a viral image after all, chances of someone "embellishing" are high...

Yeah it reminds me of Andrew's work a little.

Here's a self portrait that Alex Grey did while tripping on acid:

I know he takes A LOT of inspiration from psychedelic experiences but he doesn't work while under the influence.

the acid drawings remind me of android's work. His work is the closest visually to a mushroom trip I had once. Personally I could never figure out how to draw a psychedelic experience like that.

If you do it, I think it's best to paint/draw UI if you are in a spot where you can allow yourself to be free and creative. It's not as good if youre going to be doing something really planned out that needs to be specific and traditonally detailed....mostly because you will really want to deviate from that and get more creative/sloppy/freeflow. Except weed, which has allowed me to be pretty precise and able to go with a plan...or not if I don't need to.
That being said, i've painted under the influence of many different things....but it only works or yields decent results in the live environment, since it's so freestyle.

Back in my "rebellious (stupid) stages" I did quite a bit of experimenting with all kinds of stuff that can get you high, sometimes also tried to draw and got quite different results. Most of the cases I spent little time on actual drawing and most of it... dunno (don't remember all either) lolling around and doing other stuff after some epiphany (I figured out the fucking meaning of life was hidden in the plot of spiderman, I jus't can't remember how I came to that conclusion). I did manage to get some sketchy stuff done occasionally but I only consider one of them a success, the others were just something "abstract". I later tried to replicate that particular occasion, even went foraging for amanitas especially for that, but basically I threw up and haven't done shrooms since. I still have the dried peels in a box somewhere, but I think they've probably expired.

A glass of wine or a few shots of vodka before getting to work has had positive effects on my workflow though.
