    My first COW entry

Never drew dinosaurs before so first a few anatomy studies. I got my pose and almost my zombie design. I want bones, blood and mutations, way over the top but hopefully I can balance it out.

Please crit if you got any !

Basic colors. It'll be a pretty limited palette.

Thanks for the comments, Spirall and evolvingeye- I tried to improve mine a little bit.

Absorber: So far the sketches look good, I especially like the one on the bottom.

Josu: Great perspective and movement here- probably change the eye a little bit, because it somehow don't fit to rest of the picture (which is rather desaturated), but that's just my opinion.

Notophthalmus: The back leg still look a little bit weird, but other than that it looks good.
Yes, this is open to everyone.

paulkang91: Very pretty details here, but the lower jaw definitaly needs some changes- right now it's too big and not quite in the same perspective as the head.

My dinosaur got some additional details and a little bit more blood.

at orm irian: thank you! um, i distorted the lower jaw on purpose, to give it a more detached/rotted and loose feel

    here is my WIP.
My CA time on the train going home from work.
Will have to flesh out the new sides of this tricera concept.
Some kicking stuff going on. Cool to finally see a sea creature (dwinbotp gogogo).

Everyone's designs are looking rad! I've tried to take all the crit I have been given and integrate changes into my piece, and I'm pretty happy with it. Still, I have the rest of the evening to work on it so any thoughts you have on it at all would be appreciated

    Thanks Lander! Give color

Im' traying to apply some keys that I thought about zombies....

    - Convert a "pacific" character/creature in agressive and carnivore (like a vegetarian diplodocus, or these typical shop assistant zombie that appears in movies)

    - Place movement from extremities of the body to inside it. I think a zombie don't steer his movements from his body, but he had this movement on her hands, legs and mouth, because are these parts of the body which are telling body -through magic, maybe?- what have to do (walk, chase meat, eat!). So I think that spine will hang like a passive piece of the body.

    - A lot of blood and bones and holes in the body.... but this is obvious! ^^

    - hummmm.... I don't remember any key for now. Oh, yes, I'm listening Cosmos OST (from the Carl Sagan TV Show). But I think this is not important xDD

Wish all this don't be a lot of sillies xD

    My wip here!!!

I think I'm finally on the right track color wise. I changed the hue of the underlying picture to brown with a brown gradient which seemed to unify the whole thing and make the colors more natural and muted. Now I'm just worried about him being too hidden in with the background.

Good luck everybody it's starting to get down to crunch time!

Josu, it's close to being done, I agree. I know it's a night scene but he's fading into the background. Which is a sad thing indeed since he was so lovingly rendered with various crinkles and ridges. Go in and select just the zombiesaur and run some passes of Contrast, Unsharp Mask (very slightly), and Saturation. The select the background and maybe run very slight Gaussian Blur to make him pop into the foreground. Play with it a bit and I think you have a finished CoW. Good work thus far.

thanks a lot for the crit Nexus and Orm, i'll give a try to separate a little more the dinosaur from the background, but i kinda like the yellow saturated eye, help a lot to lead the eye to the focal point and also gives a warm feeling

I don't know that I'll be able to finish this one in time, but I'm gonna make it a little more beat up in a field of snow with fires on the horizon.

    If I finish that is.

CarlosNCT liking the colors and the placid spine!
Pochifux thanks, glad you like the concept

Done with this one rather quick, had to do a sea monster since I personally think they don't get much love much

    wip wip 3. .

Wow some kick ass zombie dinosaurs pouring into this thread!

I've been quite busy with work and other stuff, so I'm probably not going to make it to the finished section (aarAARgh!!) But here's the progress so far. .

    Attachment 885439

goldenserpent: thanks, you're right, the cave entrance does pull the eye.. I felt it would be appropriate for the viewer, to go from a lovely idyllic scene to. . . zombie DINOSAURS ! ! Araaaghh! hehe
But since this is about the creatures themselves, I'm not sure if this was the right approach. .
btw yours is coming along nicely. .for a zombie dinosaur that is
Orm Irian: thanks! I like your take on a sole arctic survivor.

    oh and I couldn't resist so I made this @ work. .
I like it so I thought I'd share it with you people. .
even though it's not a zombie dinosaur...yet! mwuhaha!

Aaaah! Have mercy Michael (again). I don't have much time to draw after school and I'm doing my best with the time I've got. It's still not enough though.
    [/drama]

Guess I'll just take my dino with me to the school and draw it there if I can't get it finished tonight.

Looking nice Harmageddon. The picture still needs some more contrast though. ;P Don't be afraid to use extreme black and white on some areas. I know it might be difficult with pencils though (especially the white ). The dino you made at work rocks!

WIP comes later. I just wanted to drop a comment for Harmageddon.

EDIT. The last WIP before finishing tomorrow. The colors are very rough. I'm just trying them on the pic. I think I have to forget the burned look as I'm having enough work with this even without trying something that difficult.

posted this into finals also, but want to ask for some crit here. it´s my first entry ever also since lurking around here for years and admiring all your great conceptartworks here guys.
i wasn´t sure if a prehistorical shark would fit as undead dinosaur but whatever - thought i´d give it a shot since these megalodons were insane killermachines.
unfortunately it didn´t turn out exactly how i wanted it. the small fish were supposed to enter through the gills/lungs and come out on the other side - BUT i didn´t manage to make that visible due to lack of skill :>
