    Thanks for the nice comments!
As for character art, I will post a couple soon.
I am not as strong with characters as with environments and props I think..
Maybe its my industrial design background ( I've been doing ID fro 18 years!)

This is unrelated to your post about your portfolio, and more related to your background in ID. You can pm me an answer since this will not be applicable to this thread. I was just wondering if you could give me a basic idea of the kind of work you ahve done as an industrial designer. I am a freshman Illustration major but my school offers an excellent program in ID and I was slightly curious about it. At this point in my school career switching majors would do me no harm and I just wanted to explore my possibilities. I'm just asking for a basic idea and perhaps even an example of some of the things you have done. If you have the time this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance!!!!

You have a lot of great ideas and each piece is wonderfuly executed, though I think in some areas you should have a broader value range, for example somtimes you have the darkest darks next to the lightest lights.

Cool stuff for sure - a nice polish tip is to nail down the surface with a little dirt and grime or super highlights. Helps crisp up the round brush blur. basically adding a super focused point on the object.

Just laying in a grungy photo as an overlay then adjusting it to fit the perspective can do wonders for metal/stone stuff.

    Keep it up!

environment art is always in higher demand than character art anyways. With that said, your character art isn't bad. Try sketching more from life - it will help you get more confident and fluid. Also, do apply your badass industrial design knowledge of shapes and forms onto your characters. I'm very envious of your sweet environ pieces.

    hey stathis,

you got avery good sense of lighting in your enviros, make them super cool to look at
i`m sure you`ll find a job with a portfolio like this, but just my 2 cents, take out the weakest piece of it.

The environments are coming along nicely, i think you should push some more finish into some areas of the characters, and give the viewer some to focus on. The brush can get distracting otherwise. Overall good stuff though and good luck with the job search.

Alyssa Milano, extremely cool work on your website!!
    K-Dash, same as above!

Bravo to both of you and thanks for the great comments guys!

One question: How tough is it to get into the FREELANCE concept design scene? Is it harder than getting a steady position somewhere?

About you character design, yeah, it's not bad, but you need to work on anatomy and some real drawing.

About everything, you have really good ideas and your rendering is not bad at all, but I think you're using too much black on your shadows, and it gets everything too contrasted and dark, perhaps you could experiment adding some more values to your shadows, that'd be cool

It's an awesome work anyway, congratz

Thanks again guys for all the great comments!

I'm afraid I'll have to post my question again, however, since I got no answer...

How tough is it to get into the FREELANCE concept design scene as opposed to finding a steady position somewhere?

I like the characters of Stathis
I like their faces, which are very attractive
In fact, I cannot stop thinking about that, what people are thinking when they have that face...

Wow guys I wasn't expecting THAT many favorable comments! Thank you!

I will be adding some new illustrations from a self-initiated children book project I'm working on right now. I'll be presenting it to art directors and publishers at the book fair in Bologna, Italy this March.

By the way, I just got done listening to Jason Manley's 'Independence in Art' class which was amazingly informative!! Everyone should know all this useful stuff..

    Hey Stathis,

I'm not really qualified to answer your freelance question but I'll try anyway. I've heard it's very difficult. For freelance it's especially important to have connections too. A good portfolio on it's own doesn't tell an art director if you'll actually be able to cope with the demands of the job independantly, without the support of a team. But then again if your portfolio is good enough, people will probably be willing to take a chance.

Stellar work overall, my only comment would be a few hierarchy problems with your depth of field and value progression. When drawing massive objects far in the distance, try to fade them out more so that they don't compete with the foreground and look smaller than they should. =)

I think your environment and machine work is fantastic. : ) Some of your characters are a little bit awkward in places, but overall they're very nice.

Really nice and atmospheric pictures, the enviros are beutiful and I like the mix between ancient and high tech you use, shows youre able to handle both styles and even mix them.

I agree with a poster above tho, try get more of ure enviro style into ure characters to really get an even and overall style of youre work.

You have a good sense of Design but for me the environments are too dark with too many black shadows. They would improve greatly just by including ambient and reflected light. That would really take your stuff to the next level. Same with characters, less black, more abmient and reflected light to describe form and a little more focus on anatomical corectness will push you to the next level. Good job though.

Dpaint, v.useful comment. It seams that I am trapped in all that blackness because I am not that confident... Try till I die I will though... Thanks again!

P.S. Nice work by the way..
