Thread: critique wouldn't hurt
June 17th, 2011 #31
I've been feeling physically horrible lately and haven't been feeling up to drawing due to it. I moved some stuff from our current flat to the new one and now my neck hurts and makes it feel like my blood isn't circulating too well. Ah well, it'll go away with a lot of stretching.
Meanwhille, here's the only thing I've gotten done lately.
I've been drawing so many 3/4 absolutely no perspective pictures that they're coming out of my ears already, thus I decided to go with something slightly different. Besides, Spider's fun to draw.

Prepare for a massive dump of anatomy studies!
Last sketches before buying a real anatomy book! Hopefully there will be a LOT of improvement after this one.
And then I got bored...
Just some skull studies. I inked it before thinking too much so the skull is too short, other than that... I'm making progress, I think.
Skull studies. The species is Zexre, and yes, most creatures you're going to see from me are at least somewhat based on humans. My friends think that's creepy.
Aaaand some Shiyus to crown this post. See what I mean with the "creepy". Even I feel like these are kind of... disturbing.
I feel somewhat stuck with these things so I'll be doing other studies for a small while now. I'm thinking of trying my skills with the environments and see whether you guys could help me with my n00bishness. c:
PS: I "finished" the B&W speedpaint. It took me another hour or so and well... it's as far as I'm going to go with it.

It's a weird compliment but I really like the way you draw skulls - it seems like you have such a good understanding of the structure and can mould it into whatever sort of head you want it to be which is really quite something!
Your creatures are awesome but I'd love to see more people - not that I don't like the creatures but yeah. As for a critique... I think your colours are a tad bright and artificial - it's hard to explain but that's the feel I get.
Look forward to seeing more from you!

You have some really good stuff in here. I really like the stylized stuff and your line work is really good as you seem to be confident in your strokes.
Your best figure is the guy standing on his head.

Wow, thanks for the comments guys! ♥
Comet- I've been concentrating on people more than anything lately and will be posting more in the future. c:
And I'm guessing you mean the colored images before the first self-portrait(with the headphones). I've been wondering whether I should take them off since those images are already more than a year old. D: Or just balance it all out by submitting some new, colored images.
Bish0p2004 - thanks! That figure is definitely my own favorite as well. It's a nice break from my usual, boring poses.

Some colored works from the past few months.
I'm still working on getting more depth to my images, as there all look really flat to me. I'll get there eventually but meanwhile... Practice practice practice!

So many people tell me I have weird ideas when it comes to pictures.
I don't agree with them.

I wanted to draw in that bonobo but my husband wanted me to do at least the Ponyo-version for the sake of Miyazaki-fans so... so I did.
And I gave her a fish-face! 8D
The version before Miles told me that water ain't no sandy dynes
And here's the final result. I could say I made some improvement on painting water.
I can't put in words how thankful I am. Miles, thanks for the advices! ♥

hey, great SB really! adore the skulls you do, they look great and it feels like you have a good grasp how the skull works
as for crit, i agree with whoever said get some more humans done as well, and more different type of animals would be cool to see from you, as you seem to have a really good understanding of animals =)
June 26th, 2011 #41
Thank you, Stilzkin. :3 And yeah, I should definitely do more humans. Well, I'll just wait till we've actually moved to our new flat and start sketching there! (I think I might even have some anatomy things down already but they're in the boxes. I'll scan them "at home")
And I shall! c:

I think this is going to be a really interesting sketchbook!
I'm digging the skulls on page one - very good feeling of the form here (and a nice use of shadows).
Aaaaand I really like the jungle-monster with the feathers on this page... It has some kind of a 3d feeling to it, dunno how to describe it... but somehow it looks really cool!
Hope to see some more works from you, some more creature concepts, sketchbook pages, etc etc ppp... but don't quit again!

Thanks for the comment, Snyder!
The jungle-picture was a commission and I have to say, it's nice to hear some feedback about it! Especially when it comes to the coloring, as it's one of my first painted images.
And there will most probably be a lot more concepts and ffff, I sure won't quit again! D:

So, you guys requested me to draw more humans and that's what you're going to get! I asked my watchers in Da to donate their faces for my horrendous little "studies"(aka, turning most of them into demons) and got twenty pictures so there will be quite a lot of faces(and other stuff in between) for you to see.
But first some nonsense.
And now... the faces.
Personally, I think the one in the middle came out pretty damn well, taken that I usually turn people into some horrendous monsters when I draw them.
July 5th, 2011 #47
...I was supposed to draw more of my watchers but the paper I used, seems to absolutely hate pencils. :/ It kind of feels like drawing on plastic.
Anyways, another watcher, another attempt at drawing Juan a bit more life-like. And since people here don't know.. Yes, yes he's supposed to have a long face. D:

Heya! long time no see, eh? We've had our internet down for the past 3½ weeks and although I'm online, I'm just leeching off the neighbor so no high expectations of me showing up all the time. >__>
Anyways! I've only got some arting done lately, including these things. I think I'm finally learning some anatomy!
Random Shiyu females, an elder and a word of warning: When you're 8½ months due, laying on your back is like having a sack of stones on your chest. In other words, breathing = impossible.
A gift for a friend. I'll be making the neck and the head smaller because right now, they're just way too big.
Haan being happy about something. I think I've drawn less than five images of him being happy. Not a good thing, I guess.
A friend's characters, Dragone(humanoid) and Rin(Zexre). Drew this as a birthday-gift. I find it amazing how I managed to do this well without any refs at all. Usually I just fail at everything. D:

I have a problem; I keep on having the feeling of something being either missing or wrong in this image but I just can't figure out what. D: maybe it could be the shadings, maybe something else, I myself have no idea.
If someone could give some advice or suggestions, it would be very appreciated!
August 5th, 2011 #50
I keep on obsessing over that picture and re-painted it yet again. Here are the first and the latest versions of it.

A background study. Just for the sake of it.

Some glass and a creepy child.
Also, it'd be great if this got some critique. I'm kind of lost with the shadings here. D:

Just a plain old color study. If you've got anything to critique, please feel free to! I'd be honored!

Also the image for my friend. I still haven't completely made my mind of the color-scheme, but I think I might be settling for this.

Finished that painting. Not that anyone cares.

Working on something a bit different today.
And wow, I've been productive. Thanks, insomnia, you make me do art at nights and suffer the days.

I really like your last piece. The head is very well rendered!
But he seems to be very sad... like you?
