    Talula and the Stray Update

I've just baked the dragon body for the first time and primered him Armoury brand grey which matches our Sculpey Firm grey perfectly. Wether in person or in photos you can barely tell which is which , which is great.

I think this piece came about from me complaining to Jarrod that all he sculpts is big guys with big biceps and big triceps. I think I bascially dared him to sculpt a little girl!

Damn this is sweet...great concept and great sculpt! Is there any chance of this being reproduced once it's finished? I would definitely buy one.

I love this one J, it's got that mythical feel to it that just really strikes me.

(You know how much I like "kid with a giant monster" designs)

Also, are you doing the live-feed sculpting groups anymore?

You rock , we were happy to participate in that last contest. Thanks

    Scotty

whatup, the webcast might get going again, Justin.tv started glitching to the point of uselessness, might use Ustream.

here is some of the big dragon demo from our board

    Talula and the Stray Update

the pose is fluid and general as the armature lengths and limbs are determined.

    Talula and the Stray Update

here are some shots with my hands just because I thought it would make it look like it was happenning, it seems kinda corny now but with a photo demo I was just trying different things.

thanks guys, glad you like the demos, I'm trying to improve them . Yes the book will basically be the Komodo King demo , pics of Brandon with famous sculptors - http://www.shiflettbrothers.com/foru...c&topicID=1974, and this Dragon.
Hoepfully the hand coming in with the super glue implies me just coating the floral wire with glue.
Brian , yes the gloves are for mixing the bondo , or 2-part epoxy , here I'm using again the Billy Mayes Mighty Putty, it's white, and you can see it in some of his crucial point or points that I think might be stressed fro some reason later on. You don't want that stuff on your hands, trying to cure in your pores. I hit my hands with just a sprinkle of baby powder and they slide right into some latex or non-latex gloves.

and of course our process is additive, we're never going to stick on a big clump and try to work it, what we do is add small pieces over and over, almost like dripping a sand castle but horizontally. Small blobs and strips of clay and eventually the form grows.

    Talula and the Stray Update

we'll build up the places first that I think will be the bulkiest , and so it feels safe to start sticking clay there, his belly and his head. I like monsters to have big heads, the Noynub for example, they seem more monstorous, but it also makes them subconciously feel more like children with the big head proportions.

I will start out trying to make an evil devil monster, and it slowly turns into something cute, so this time I'm really trying Not to " go Goofy' or sympathetic, this is a beautiful, but evil f'n dragon this time, hopefully.I like to get an early pissed eye, he's shocked and insulted that you would want to fight him, and ready to bite.

    Talula and the Stray Update

this is not a pleasing shot of the head, but I wanted to show where I started to pose him again, I've leaned him over to the left, just to see what happens. It's a bit more quizzical.

lots of pose changes, this is our process, always wondering what might possibly be a cooler dynamic between the two characters

Man-o-man, Jarrod, this is going to end up being one of my
favorite SB pieces! My daughter (8-yrs.old) is SOOOOOO into dinosaurs,
dragons, monsters and creatures of all kinds and she is going
to flip out when she sees this. She's got a pet leopard gecko
named Coraline (after the movie, of course), and anything dino,
dragon or lizard-like is right up her alley (and mine!). Just awesome!

Out of curiosity, what happened to the original piece?

    Troy boy

whatup. Excellent Brad Pitt from Troy you did, you nailed that.
The pose changed about half a dozen times on this dragon, that's a lot of moving for the armature, we will usually move it into about 2 or 3 poses before we are happy. Is that what you mean, what happenned to the pose?
The sculpt itself is still in sculpey and I hope to finish it next. Thanks for coming into our forum. You are keeping a consistent level of quality in the stuff you are doing Brandon and I have noticed. word

Thanks J, that's extremely kind of you to say. You and Brandon have always been a HUGE
influence and I hope we get a chance to meet and throw back a couple of beers one of these days.

As far as the dragon,....yeah, I guess i just got confused from the first pics, where it looked like
everything was completed (and you mentioned it was baked and primered), to the later pics with
just the dragon. I guess that was a completely separate sculpt that was strictly done as a tutorial
for the webcast? Whatever the case, awesome as always.
