Question I can't get the colors in order!

For the longest time I have limited myself to shading, creating a grayscale picture. Recently I found my old art portfolio, and saw that the colored pencils were out of order, so I decided to fix this.

About three hours later I came to the conclusion that color isn't limited to a pattern of ROYGBIV. I had arranded and re-arranged 30 diffrent colors in atttempt to get the perfect spectrum. I think I might be obsesive compulsive or excentric, it's tearing me up inside that I can't get them in order. I know if I place the pencils in a cylinder, I could arrange them as to create a color wheel that shows how one color is related to six diffrent colors and shades around it, but that can't be done linearly.

How do you organise your colors?

I have the 120 prisma color set and they all fall out every time I open the box so I don't bother keeping them in any order. Or my "order" is to keep the most uses ones together with a rubberband

I don't do order. I choose the colours I want to use and see what happens. The surprise element is the best part.

Mine are organized by length not by color that way my favorite ones are closest to me.

You can't get them in order because you're dealing with a linear arrangement, while color has three dimensions. Your colored pencils don't only differ in hue (ROYGBV), but also in value (relative lightness or darkness), and chroma (relative grayness).

If your eyes were different, you would see different "colors." Bees see ultraviolet patterns on flowers that are invisible to us. An owl can see a warm mouse in a cool field. Et cetera.

I bought a bunch of them individually in addition to having a color set...so now they are just in plastic bags grouped by approx color. That way they are easy to find, and stack nicely in a drawer.

I like how you organize your pencils. ^^
It must be really convenient, hahah.

I just have mine all together in a little pouch that came with my portfolio bag. /shrug
I never really put them in order. But when I'm drawing and I have a couple of pencils out, I usually have the ones I'll be using the most closest to me.
