Great caricatures! The fourth one is definately my fav. He looks absolutely crazy. That cat is also phenominal, he's got a very dasterdly air to him.

Looking good, man. A few thoughts:

The digitals are longing for some texture.

The pencils seem to lack contrast. Maybe try a darker/softer graphite for the darkest areas. Even a few touches around key points of interest like the pupils, eyelids, mouth line, etc. can make a big difference.

Try focusing on larger shapes when approaching things like hair and shadow areas.

Your shading is nice but you might try tightening up your crosshatching technique. Otherwise, learning to use the side of a regular old no.2 pencil (or a lead holder or woodless pencil if you don't like to sharpen often) can clean things up and take your shading to the next level.

Hope this helps. Keep 'em coming.

Nice caricatures, the flesh tones up on top almost like a 3d model...but not. I can like poke the guy.

Make a sketchbook happy, feed it a tip to improve!

    Thanks for the comments guys,

Traveler: Thanks for the comments.. My crosshatching is a bit chickenscratch right now. I guess i've been seeing it as value more than crosshatch. I'll try to work on that.

Yeah, look up Giovanni Civardi for some amazing crosshatching. Great anatomy studies, too.

Last two caricatures are definitely showing some improvement. Great job with the highlights in the Doogle one. The lines that have a darker accent really help to make it pop. I'm even seeing what appears to be a little more care in laying down the hatching and crosshatching. The only thing I'd really suggest on that one is that you work on making your hard lines nice and clean. No scratchy stuff. A clean, confident line, even though slightly inaccurate, will almost always look better than a perfectly placed scratchy line.

Pate is looking good, too. Nice job with the hair. Nice rendering on the face. My suggestions for Pate would be a touch of texture with something like a round scatter brush at small size and low opacity. Just enough to suggest a skin texture. He could also use a darker outline, or at least a cleaner, harder edge on the sides of the neck and perhaps the shirt.

    Keep it up!

Really coming along. Great job with the subtle texturing on Rubel. Love the bright red lips and ear, too.

BTW, check out http://www.jasonseiler.com/ if you haven't already. He does some of the best caricatures I've seen.
