    Gilead's 1,000 Paintings in 2010

    Attachment 879979
Hello everyone and welcome to the year 2010. I’m very excited about this year because this year is destined to be the greatest year in human history.
Oh bad people will do bad things, good people will do bad things, accidents will happen, but We do not measure ourselves by what happens to us, but by how we rise above the things that happen to us.
This is the year we rise above it all. This is the year that resolutions are fulfilled. This is the year that good intentions are matched by better actions. This in short is the year that we all stop talking about it and start doing it. The year of doing. This year we will stop imploring the government to fix the economy and start making our own good decisions. This year we will stop waiting for the Kyoto bill to clean up the planet and clean it up our own neighborhood ourselves. We will recycle…EVERYTHING. We will give our patronage only to ethical companies. We will repair our health and eat real food and drop all the bad habits that drag us down. This year we will finally see the good in ourselves and stop putting ourselves down.
The year of doing. Doing whatever it is we do to greatest of our ability.

What I do is paint pictures. And this year I will paint more and better than ever before.
My resolution is to paint 1000 paintings this year.
These will include signs and murals. Cheating you say? It’s what I do 5 days a week give me a break huh? Besides that will only account for about 250 paintings. But if you still don’t like that feel free to send me paid illustration work instead. I will be happy to make the substitution.
I’m also going to resume my daily painting exercise where I do a 30 minute painting every morning. That makes 365 more. The remaining 385 will include Illustrations, gallery works, color sketches and master copies where I copy someone else’s work in order to learn their technique. It will not include pencil sketches or pen and ink work unless they get some application of paint or ink wash over them. I suppose it would include digital work, but I don’t typically do much of that.
I will post every one of them right here and you can cheer me on, or submit questions, comments, critiques and money.
Many of these paintings will be for sale one way or another. I’m going to try selling on e-bay again and will include the links here.
Also Occasional works will be given away as prizes to my beloved fans though I have not decided how to go about that yet.

I was going to leave all the signs and illustrations out of this thread, but I changed my mind.

So are you ready? Here we go!

#1 Aqua Sticks on watercolor paper.
    Attachment 879980
#2 Acrylics on board. 30 minutes.
    Attachment 879981
Both of these kind of suck, but I guess that leaves me with no place to go but up.

Awesome resolution, this should be a fun thread to watch. I have similar resolution to draw and paint more in 2010. What sort of signs and murals do you do?

    Good luck.

I really like the red nude, and the vase piece is fantastic. All resolutions should be so great as yours. I read that the greatest quality of artwork comes from work created in great quantities. Good luck!

That is a beautiful drawer. You have some clever signage on your site. I like the acrylic nudes. Are they done from life? I am primarily an acrylic painter, so this is really inspiring.

    Keep it up.

    1000 paintings in 2010

    Thanks guys.

Marcus, The nudes are based on drawings from my life drawing class so i was not doing the actual painting from life.
I did the shading in whatever color, scrubbed back and forth with white to pull up the high points then washed over the whole surface with a transparent color. Then mixed some white with that color and picked up the light areas again. I't's crude compared to oils, but nice for little studies like this.

    Here's a few fantasy head studies I did this morning. acrylic 9" x 12" in a sketchbook.

you'll notice #9 is missing because it's a sign that I didn't finish until after dark last night so i don't have a picture.

Maybe keep your values a bit closer together for secondary forms (cheekbones, brows etc) and reserve the large shifts for the major forms (cillinders, eggs etc...)

Great resolution btw, I'm sure by the end this year you'll be much better. I saw some of your older work and think these already show improvement.

#22 These aren't very interesting, but I have to count them. All I had to do was go out and change the price, but that means sitting there waiting for several layers of paint to dry on each one. Not a profitable day.

Someone asked what these faces are painted on. It's just a regular sketchbook. I tape off the page and put a blotter paper underneath then paint away with acrylics and latex housepaint.

Lawrence, Thank you. Yes I've thrown a lot of sketches away, but I'll keep that sketchbook.

Here was one of these guys that I painted years ago. Faded an scratched up. Plus I used to rely on an airbrush all the time.

Great work on the burrito guy and the monsters. Just interested, do you have a preferred brand of acrylics? I use mainly Golden, so I am interested in what other artists prefer.

    Keep it going.

You'll be appaled; I use mostly latex house paint. For the brighter, richer colors I use Liquitex, Soho, Goldens, whatever's on sale, I'm not experienced enough to have a prefference. They all mix just fine with the house paint I thin them with minwax acrylic varnish from the hardware store.

I apologise for the conspicuous lack of fine art in this "fine art" thread. It was my intention to do a lot more still lifes and landscapes, which I will soon. Please bear with me.
