    Chicks Who Draw Chicks

The ladies of CA are exploring the idea of creating another Chicks Who Draw Chicks Calendar for 2011 and we'd like to start by looking at ideas of what the community would be interested in purchasing. For example, could be Chicks Who Draw Chicks: Undead Edition. Don't worry guys, no matter what general theme we go with, it will be featuring sexy women. If possible, we'd like to make a new calendar yearly, each themed differently but that is only possible if it is financially sucessful because we are doing this to support CA.

So, please choose your options based on what you would BUY, not just what would look good, so we can see about moving this project along

Well this is just me, but I'll never understand the appeal of zombie chicks. I voted for Si-Fi and Fantasy.

    Cool!

I voted sci-fi, because it's something I don't tend to see as many girls do as a genre, so it would be a cool way to assert ourselves in that theme. I don't even think there were any sci fi ones in the last one, were there? Hm... one, sort of I think. With a ray gun, very stylized...

I almost voted for undead, but I thought it might be harder to mix it up with that theme. (Though as soon as I clicked submit I regretted not clicking it as a 2nd choice, because of course there's all kinds of creative approaches one could take to that.)

Definitely not fantasy, in my opinion. Waaaay too many hot elf chicks out there already, haha...

I don't know if such a defined theme is necessary. If you must have one, I would suggest something more general and "thematic," open to a wide variety of aproches and interpretations, rather than specifying genre/subject matter.

Would have loved to've seen something in the vein of Gil Elvgren.

I like this idea. Can it be made into a poll option?

I'm a sucker for sci-fi so I put that in there... But the Heroines idea appealed to me a lot more. Not sure that I've seen many pieces in those subject areas... and it seems broader than the rest. Some method of commonality is nice, but too restrictive and it seems to make it difficult to stand out. Least, in my little view =)

I'm sure a "lesbian s&m" version, tasteful and artsy of course, will sell like crazy.

Why does it have to be l... oh, never mind!

Seriously, maybe just a representation of each month? That's pretty open. Invention of the month, This month in history. This month as a guy/gal?

Maybe we could even leave entries open for the feminity-challenged? (Provided they change their socks weekly, of course.

I was just about to say what Elwell said. The last calendar was a huge success and didn't really need any restrictions and I think it was stronger for it. I think that if a theme is neccessary, then each gal could choose a general season to be represented as a pin up and run with it (I'm not sure if that's what happened last time or not) so that there's a fair number of options for each month's illuistration.

But of course any way it'll be great

EDIT: also, yay. Took you gals long enough

Please don't feel like I'm restricting them, forcing them to take a theme. These were their ideas and I'm all for it.

Haha... oh god, I'd be the one to draw it, too. PICK ME!

In all seriousness, these were just a few of the many ideas us females pooled together... we just thought keeping it with a common genre theme might help keep the calendar one cohesive sexy unit. Feel free to speak up if anyone has better ideas, please!

Hrm, don't know if it's a "better" idea, but as I read that sentence I thought of: Harlequins/Jesters/Tricksters, feminine wiles do abound. Which could be pretty open as well.

Wanted to ask though, is there perhaps a link of some kind to the previous calendar? I've lurked for a long while, but I don't think I ever saw that.

Oh and Pezzle, you sig made me laugh so hard my beloved jumped ;P Nice.

I agree with what Zirngibism said about sci-fi. It's one of quite popular genres yet there's not much girls out there who draw sci-fi with a style. It'll be quite a challenge for several girls to tackle which could help expand their creative abilities of drawing. While you're all at it, why not combine two themes together to provide more challenges for girls or having no restrictions with themes at all as long as it's all about girls drawing girls?

Like theechoinside said, is there any link to the previous calendar? What was its previous theme?

And oh wow! I've seen some of those works separately, but that is certainly all kinds of awesome. Definitely this is something to look forward to =) And yet, more reasons to spend money I don't actually have ;P

I like my fantasy with sci-fi overtones, so I picked both.

I hope I can contribute to this somehow

Why not use the MONTH as the theme?
Winter themed pics in January, bikinis in July, some sisters in February, etc...

It's only boring if you make it boring. Superhero ladies in bikinis battling robots on the beach in august is just as interesting as scantily clad witches in october.

I still say going with the overall season might be better, since it'll allow for better distribution of the talent within the months. If all the pro gals pick a few months and a lot of the beginners pick the rest, it might make a few months stand out as better than the others.

This makes since to me and also this:
OmenSpirits: "Would have loved to've seen something in the vein of Gil Elvgren."
Classic Pinup style is still very timeless.

But the open theme of "Chicks Who Draw Chicks" is still the best title to me.

I think our intent was to set it up according to seasons as well so it would actually have some relation to the months - after a theme was chosen, we would divide into groups according to the general seasons of spring, summer, autumn, winter, and then paint images with that feel.

We wanted to try and switch it up a little this time with a theme, but if that's not what the forum at large wants it's good to know. Keep the ideas rolling, gents ;D
