Nice work. You have a lot of energy to your sketches and your paintings. Your stuff makes me want to go sketch and paint, myself. What more can I say? Thanks for sharing.

The pencils are great as usual and your painting technique is so refreshing and unique. I like the way you experiment with your style, more of us should try this.

Have you got a favoured painting style/technique?

Man I really, REALLY like your stuff!

What kind of advice would you give to a newbie like me, in regards to what to focus my time on when practicing drawing/painting?

Awesome juxtaposition-- Soft clouds, and blocked in figures and building. Very cool! Keep up the great work-- Looking forward to seeing more!

    Bio- Thanks, and will do.
Colorado Kid- Stephen King fan, Haven fan? Thanks for the boost man
Mothman- Thanks man, not sure about a favorite technique since I get bored with some and move on, I always liked the looser styles. Think I'm starting to get the hang of using this oil-esq brush, its very useful for blending but I love the texture it adds when used in larger strokes. As of right now though, I'm using the lasso tool to select areas then painting into them with the oil brush. I go back and forth using the same technique and few other brushes that are default with photoshop. If I think of any others, I'll post them.
Agerkvist- I know what I'd do if I went back to my younger self, that would be to do tons of still life studies, this is good to train your brain and eyes to see color and value, would also do lots of perspective drawings and practice practice practice. Everything we draw is tied to perspective and if its off slightly then your painting will look incorrect. Right now, I've got a weird schedule where I'll do tons of pencils(stuff from imagination, faces, still life etc etc.)And lots of photo studies, trying to see how color and light act within each photo. The hard part is trying to commit all this to memory and use it within your own work at a later date. As I said before, I'll do studies for a week, then I'll do stuff from imagination trying to incorporate what I've learned from the studies. The important thing to remember is to always have variety, study different things so you dont get bored or burnt out. For me, I get tired of working on something too long and thats why I have a lot of unfinished sketches. lol. One more thing I would tell a younger me and you as well is to sacrifice your social life, if you have time to spend out on the town, then you have that time to draw and paint. Also, no video games, if you have time to play games for hours on end, then you have that time to draw and paint. This sounds like a lot, but this is what will help you improve at an exponential rate. Wish I would have done this a long time ago. I would be destroying the conceptart world right now with the best of them if I had. A good average of drawing time per day is around 3-4 hours, although I've gone as far as 16 some days. Trying to get in as much XP as possible. The only way to improve is to increase your mileage, practice practice practice man, the more you do, the better you will get. I think I'm starting to sound confusing so I'll stop there haha.
    Misty- Thx man

A sketch, not too happy yet with the results.

I can see why you might not be happy with the results-- It looks soft, that's all! You just need some hard edges, in my opinion. More light on the form. I like it though-- It looks very dreamy and ethereal. Keep plugging away at it, and it'll emerge into the epicness I know it is.

Hey man, thanks for the reply in #395 - life studies does seem to be the way

I really like your stuff. That latest study with the cone, sphere and box - you set that up IRL or did it from a photo? If it's a photo, could you link it?

Your hair studies from #403 are really impressive!
About the space marine piece, there is something going on with the perspective. Try to take a picture of you from same angle and similar posture. Make some studies on that then return to the marine guy 'cuz it has a lot of potential.
Thank you for replying to my sketchbook, and cant wait to see more of your work!

    Hee hee, pikachuuu.

Liking the texture experimenting in the latest paintings-- Very painterly.

Fun sketches as always-- Your faces are expressive and fun to look at.

The cone, box and sphere from #404 are from real life - excellent. Where did you get those? I would love some for studies, but I've no idea where I would get some

The painterly sketches are great, but you loose some of the depth you normally have. Guess that's to be expected when experimenting
