    last one for today

I tried to only use redish/sepia colors on one portrait and I also used wet on wet technique almost overall on this piece. Wanted to have a more loose and merging feeling with the colors. Still dont know what my style is and what suits me the most so I need to experiment alot more.

goodnight and Ill get to work first thing tomorrow morning.

btw the pic wasnt that good, the lights are all white in reality.

So basically what you're doing it mastering the hardest medium known to man -- watercolor.

Sounds about right for you, haha.

Beautiful portraiture. Just incredible progression you've made on these in just a few weeks....!!

    today

Todays work will be to draw a little older child, 5-6 years old maybe. Will try to blend the techniques Ive tried, using water on water to get the skin tones nice and then paint on dry background to get the details down. also I think I have had to much white in the previous portraits so I will save a little less paper today. and yea Im beginning to paint on A3 papers now cheers

deadly- glad u are around m8. yea it is hard I tell u but I like it alot. thank u so much! it is exciting that u cant control it all.

    Corn- thanks bro!

Q- thank u trying to keep up with u guys.

    portrait

I have worked all f**** day with this portrait. tried to use both more details and a looser way of coloring. the skin is water in water and the rest is water on dry paper. Mostly used brown, yellow and red. I wasnt really satisfied with the result allthough I think it is way much better than the other portraits I did with water colors. This was a real challenge for me and I really took my time to analyse colors, proportions and so on. The eyes were the hardest and this is the part that I dont really like, mostly the eyelashes that got to big".

To bad u cant erase. I gotta say though-... I love water colors!!!! and I will get so much better at this, trust me, I will work hard every single day. so water colors it is for some time now.

I have a bad habit as some of u may know, I forget to sleep and eat when I paint. Need to take more breaks.

Im gonna practice on painting eyes some day cause I need it. The mouth am I really proud of btw.

the last images shows the blendings I used the most. I am getting better at sketching faces too I believe.

well goodnight and I hope u think that I am making progress here cause I reallly bust my ass off.

love u guys for supporting me. goodnight

making two posts cause my internet seem to crash all the time.

wow really nice watercolour man - I don't have any crits I'm afraid because you are way better at them than I am. Saying that, you have motivated me to get them out next week, so if I learn anything I'll give you a shout.

I particularly like the subtle variations in colour on the cheek and other places on the face - hard to explain but I think you know what I mean.

Keep on working hard, you are improving like crazy!

    update

Thomas- thank u! yea take em out m8. I know what u mean, I really like wet in wet cause u can do that. cheers

    Ramin- thanks m8!

LtP- thank u, please try out, its hard but awesome.

    bbwolf- thanks!

Rebecka- thanks I wont I love it I think I found my perfect medium. attleast the one I think is the most fun, and aint that what all this is about.

    Andre- thanks, u should. peace

the first thing is a few thumbnales I did while sitting outside. I choose one and I tried to paint the natur around me. I dont think it looks so good but overall good for being my first real llife nature painting. water colors is what I have used. Need to practice this alot more, and water especially.

I have done my first self portrait painting today, with water colors as well. I am pleased with the result though some things are bugging me. just wanna say that the colors look different irl Im afraid my camera dont really show the truth everytime. The nose seem abit put on, glued to my face, probably becasue it doesnt merge with any of its sides to the cheeks. Need to think of this in the future. The mouth was to wide, tried to use photoshop to make it just a bit smaller. Skin color is hard and I need a lot more practice here too.

But I have used alot more dark colors and I have made more contrasts here than ever with water colors, happy about this.

I did a pencil sketch and then a color sketch b4 I started out.

take care and thanks for reading, watching.

need to study the differences in how I put the colors down and when. I did some different tries here. I used wet on wet through layers immediately, and then I tried what happened if I waited a few seconds before applying the next color, there we have blooming. And to see the contrast I also tried waiting til it dried completely before continuing with the next layer. There the color shows under and u get contrasts through lines.

I think that this is some really good shiet. I have painted the picture all wet before started. I shouldnt do that I believe I should use layers that merge in wet on wet instead as shown on this pic. It removes alot of blooming and it merges the colors really nice. And I have more control about where the dark and light parts are because I can split the face up in parts and dont need to paint it all in one session.

Maybe u dont understand all this but it is nice to write it down so I remember my thoughts. cheers

want to thank Arenhaus and Tommoy for some great tips. !

What the Hell dude, you're doing so good with watercolors, the hardest medium available to painters!

    Those portraits are fan-freaking-tastic!!!

    Keep it up man!!

And I won't be able to post anything for another week or so ;-; I'm swamped with tons of work. Seriously been forced to bust my arse off 8 hours a day to finish this crap! Damn you design class! Damn you!

    quickie

quick portrait of my cousins daughter. 40 min work + 10-15 min of drying time.
I like that I made it so quick, I just painted. Thinking there is alot more feeling when u do like that. I havnt used photoshop afterwards this time. The angle of her left eye is a bit wierd i know but I like it like this so screw that.

I like the eyes and I made them with a technique I found was very useful, cant really explain it, maybe another time. will try do more eyes.

Very nice water colours. My one crtique is that I find the highlights a little too abrupt, especially on the baby painting makes it actually look unfinished to me but it's alright on the other ones. I would also think it would be cool if you pushed your values abit more, see some darker darks. Otherwise keep up the good work!
