This piece took me about 2 hours to finish It would have been bigger if i hadnt fucked up in PS, I was messin about with the size and by accident saved the project and it wasnt bigger than this at that point. So hope u like it anyways. Two steps, to see the dif with some color and such. The scanner has crashed.

hope to get some poses up from paper as soon as it gets fixed. Cheers friends!

    now with some color

now with some color Im gonna do the background, make some shadowing in his face, and add some splatter as they use in the real artwork to get that motion feeling and then its basically done

hey man, sorry for not being around for a while! by the look of your recent stuff i really cant believe youre new to the art impressive improvement, great expressions and everything is starting to look more and more confident! As for the advice to how to make shadows and highlights, i always start from very dark sketch and start adding highlights there and there very carefully, by going from darker lights to brighter lights (brighter lights comes very last) hope this helps keep on kicking ass my friend!

This style with high contrasts suits you well. The piece with cole is really good! Your improvement shows. Keep at it! For Ali painting watch your tones, you've added darker shadows and more highlights than the photo. Putting the same background color as the photo might help you with values.
