    Hey all,
Been ridiculously busy with portfolio, school, grad school apps and life in general. heres a quick sketch of my character Jenna. Critiques are strongly encouraged and appreciated : ) quick warm up. What can be fixed/pushed anatomically + aesthetically? what can make her more successful as a character?

Sweet sketch! As for critique, it seems like you didn't know what to do with her hands,
so I feel that they could be more expressive. Maybe make the back of her neck more of a
curve too (just to see how it looks). The face looks great as is in my opinion. Keep it up,
and good luck with grad school applications and all : )

Jeremy - Thanks! I'll definitely experiment with her hand gestures, body, etc and work out her shape/proportions a little bit more. I'm working on a sheet for her and a few other human characters and humanoids! Hope all is well with you!

    Cheers,
    Ashley

Hi, long time no see! Sick hatching and creatures as always. I can't wait to see the film, it'll look really cool I'm sure.

So about the cartoons. You can do better. I just saw three posts of "different" characters with the same face, eyes, nose, and awkward proportions. Only difference is one has boobs, one has a hoody, and one is a satyr or he just has really weird legs. Their proportions are a mess, you've just given them huge heads and progressively shrunk the proportions down the body until they wind up with really tiny calves.
Make your cartoons simpler, avoid jagged edges and confusing forms. 3 or 4 heads high is a good height for most cartoons, and be careful not to squish the lower bodies. check out this website, it has tons of old model sheets, it would be great to study some cartoons with nice proportions.
And one last thing, remember you are free to draw whatever you want. Don't be trapped by anatomy, cartoons don't have to look like real people.

This probably sounded really harsh, sorry about that.
