There isn't really anything objective to begin to critique or analyze so I don't know that there are any "tips" anyone can offer. I'm not even sure how one could be a "student" of Abstract Contemporary to be honest - I would be curious as to what that would entail. At this level of non-objective, leaning toward minimalism, you're working with the raw, fundamental concepts of picture-making: composition, value, color, texture - that's about it. You're work is about as good as anyone's who works in that mode so I would just carry on.

    Good luck!

Unforunately this is a concept art forum, but I'll pitch in some small suggestions if contemporary arts is what you're interested.

I'd say Ed Ruscha. or Cy Twombly is a starting point. Additionally, seen the recent Turner Prize? Richard Wright's work is interesting- hits all the points with conceptual contemporary art.
