Closing off the Lounge is a big mistake, it's like taking away the CA communities personal voice away (not their artistic voice FYI). I hope it comes back soon.

Agreed. I already said in the Livejournal thread our best course of action is to get a statement from Jason or another moderator before we simply clock off and go paint. Jason taught us to work at what we want, well, personally I want the Lounge back. I already sent a PM, but (understandably) he hasnt replied. Im counting on waiting till the blackout scare blows over, then maybe we can get some answers.

I'm sure it will, but as of right now...I agree with Black Spot, at the moment we should be supporting Jason. All his hard work (as well as the MB crew) almost went to hell in a handbasket.

So, let's try not to let it bother us all (for those whom it's bothering).

Sketchbook...Please tear it to shreds, Thank You!

Oh come on people, It's either not having a lounge for a little while or not having CA at all.

I for one I am just thrilled that I logged on this morning and the site was still here

    EDIT: Go fucking draw.

while i do love the lounge thread, of course , who wouldnt? it had the cheer me up thread where we could laugh, there was the what made you depressed thread that you could whine and moan about things and many other threads that had their own niche.

it was very community like where people interacted in a different manner than in the other sections of the site.

But really people, the close call CA.org had, its a good idea to hide it or postpone it, at least so the community can get to art making. The Lounge is quite a time sink-just like TVTropes.com and YouTube.

Jason and the Team behind the site need to focus on what is important, and we need to support them and help, with the lounge disabled we are free of the distraction and can get back to what we came here to do: Help each other learn art.

    no more Lounge Whores

so go learn and share art!

I was a loungewhore, but not any more! No more lounge distractions from drawing - just browsing through other peoples sketchbooks is distractive enough.

I understand its a massive privilege to have CA at all. Especially considering the current crisis. But still, I dont believe its a "Lounge or CA" situation at all. Jason was using that place for the donation drive, the open letter and his own Words of Wisdom. I cant see him cut it. I see no reason why I cant fight for what I love AND improve at art.

    eh?

I highly doubt that the lounge bandwidth was the thing that was going to sink CA. Sounds like there are alot of costs outside running the site itself that we are ignorant of because, as was mentioned in that thread, they can't be spending anywhere near 50 grand a month on bandwidth and hosting alone.

Besides, they've been working for quite awhile now towards 4.0 or TAD or whatever name the new face of CA is going under. I don't see the whole thing just disappearing when the newest model is just waiting to be unveiled. Patience, I'm sure it will all settle back to normal soon, or some kind of normal anyhow.

It will be back. For better or worse, the Lounge is a big part of what makes CA what it is.

Yes, but I think if people need to vent now it might be wise at the moment to do it off-site.

I didn't think it was possible to be called an artist when you have nothing to say. It's like being a writer who publishes individual words as books and expects to be praised for it.

Actually, I'd argue that point. It's more like drama is a big part of what makes CA what it is. The Lounge is just the laundry room.

Okay, I've seen some weird things going right now offsite, it is NOT BLACK SPOT THAT TURNED OFF THE LOUNGE. She is in the post talking about the LJ group she made.

    Cliffs:

Yesterday Manley announced CA.org would be taken down due to lack of funding.

The last "on demand" class only had like 12 attendees and there wasn't enough funding to keep the website running.

He needed 150k to cover the next 3 months.

In one day we raised an exceptional amount, enough to keep the forum running a little longer ( but don't stop donating!)

Unfortunately the thread ended up being more than just supporters, and some members felt like criticizing Manleys methods, and expressing their own opinions on how the forum should be run.

The lounge was shut down to give the CA.org people room to breathe, it's been an emotional few days. (Though I'm not sure if this is official yet)

This thread was created as the lounge closure was sudden and with little warning.

    I posted this post.
