Hey guys, my name's Michael. Been out of College for a year now (studied Design and Illustration) and have seince been workin on building up my skills and trying to put together a portfolio. I would oneday love to get work in the advertising/fashion illustration fields and one day maybe even get into concept art. Art is life.
I'll be using this thread as a place where I can get critiques on my work, so I can move forward and improve.
I want to start up a blog. I wanted to use this image as one of the first pieces to put up there. I did an oil version of it. I wasn't too happy with it so I moved onto the digital version. Both are at various stages, neither are complete. Let me know how I can improve them. I want it to have a poster like vibe, so other elements will be coming into it later.
Oil on Canvas
Digital - Photoshop
I like the oil on canvas version best sofar!!! At this early stage I can't say that much. A little too much opacity yet and the whole character looks still like one solid thing, not so much as if it was moving towards the viewer.
You might want to have a look at this sketchbook (it's not mine!!! ). The artist has done a lot of traditional painting and of some you can see them while in progress. Might be helpful!!!
Thanks man. Muchly appreciated. That link is pure fire! Thanks for the feedback.
I am not sure if I am using this critique thread in the right manner. I don't know if you guys want to be critiquing value studies. Is that more of a sketch book thing? Either way, I want critiques, even for the little stuff. It is ALL valuable.
Here are a few more studies. Rip em' apart!
Knocked up this afternoon. Value study.
Sketch and a start on the oil paitning.
