    Chainsy's sketchbook

Little back story on me since none of you know except for maybe 2 people.
I live in Texas and am an inspiring artist at the all knowing age of 16, but even with my infinite knowledge (humor me) I still need to improve majorly on lighting, composition, anatomy, ect. I also need to stop being lazy and use references, a bad habit I will break. Anyways on with the story, my family is a family of artists, my sister is going to UNT for graphic design, my mom was quite the artist but quit young, and I am hoping to one day become a big hitter in the concept industry, but first I need to get into a good art school, which is the main root reason of posting here to improve, I pretty much sketch daily, but I am a very self conscious person about my artwork, so only my best will be posted, but this does not mean do not crit!!!
Anyways enough with the rant, lets get this sketch book running.
Also any advice on making photos of drawings sharp would be very helpful, and how to keep the quality and sharpness of the psd file when uploaded would be nice to know too.

Also do not have a scanner, so most my actual sketch book drawings will be.... blurry.

Hey chains, I recognized you from FP. I'm sebbonaparta over there.

You're not going to get much love until you start posting up lots of work, everyday. You really have to show dedication before you get people commenting, at least that's the common thread I've noticed. If you make daily updates, that'd be great. It's pretty normal to not have anyone post between your own posts though, just use it as fodder to draw more.

Also put your sketchbook link in your signature, that way people can see your work easily if they see one of your posts in another part of the forum.

Otherwise, you just have some of the basics to work on. You might want to pick up some Bridgman anatomy books, as well as Loomis, and use those to study. Just copy the drawings inside, and then draw them again from imagination exactly as your remembered them. The most important thing is to memorize the forms and interlocking of the muscles.

    Keep posting

    So I am entering this week's c.o.w.
So far I have the layout plan, the creatures though they look human from the setup, are not bipedal and resemble more of a mix between a hairless gorilla and a bat.

I'm enjoying what you have posted so far, but I think that you should add some studies of some sort into the mix.

I hate scanners, they're always alluding me in my quest for them. Yea I should start doing studies, but I never have that much time..

The gun is pretty crappy, the whole point was a quick study on values and material definition. ~15 minutes

Hey! this looks like a nice sketchbook :0

What I like most are your pencil drawings, although a bit dark, I can almost feel the forms of the figure.

Can't really crit your digitals as there are only a few finished pieces

    All in all, nice sketchbook

I do not possess a nice camera or a scanner... and I do not possess the money to obtain such things being 16 and not exactly having the highest paying job in the world. I gotta make do with what I have, and even though the pictures are crappy they still get the art across enough to get some crit.

Your creatures are really good looking. You might wanna study some more anatomy for your character work. Great sketchbook, keep them drawings coming.

You might also want to fix his migrating right nipple
But aside from the the only thing I see wrong is very small shoulders. Since you have photoshop, you can fix those scans a bit by using Levels, Curves and adjusment layers to brighten those sketchbook pages, but from what I can see they look good. Keep it up fellow 16-year-old!

A quick self portrait, was really a pain in the ass because I used my bathroom mirror so everytime I looked up the angle was slightly different on my face so I had to keep recalculating anatomy to make it look like me. I messed up a bit on the perspective of the mouth, it should be moved over a little more away from the drawing, right now it makes my nose look very flat.

    Also my dog, optimus prime.
