    Hi,

    thanks for visiting my SB

    I don't think you need to worry about your age, it's never too late to learn something new, just practise and in a few years you might be a great artist, as you're clearly good with painting already.

    I have one advice to offer though. I think your colors are too bright or pale sometimes, maybe you should be more careful with highlights. If I may suggest, consider reading: Prometheus Art tutorial.

    Hi Cukier!

    Very good to see you working so much. Great work.

    I have a comment regarding the use of light to describe form. I've done a quick overlay of one of your paintings to demonstrate.



    Photography tends to flatten form, so it's important to try to fix an imaginary light in the scene which will help you to describe the shapes as you know them to be in real life.

    A good way to develop your understanding of the planes which makes up the head is to draw the skull, if you can get your hands on one (real or plastic).

    Chris! Thank you very much I know what you mean- I just have to practice it and I'll try to dig some graves (skull )
    I've Tried to remember that light thing on this picture (a bit crappy but light is a bit better)



    some fat monster (light on the belly is not finished-don't know what to do with the head as it it is not a human head )



    and some post apocaliptic scene (early WIP - i have to go back to "shades of grey"

    Hi Cukier!

    Yep, getting better. One thing to keep an eye on are your contrasts. Make sure to use the whole tonal scale from black to white.



    The white arrows indicate downward-facing planes; surfaces which face away from the light. I may have overdone the cast shadow under the nose. Makes the face resemble somebody with bad associations.

    I'd also recommend going through Andrew Loomis' book, Drawing the Head and Hands, which you'll find by following this link. It'll greatly help with your placement of facial features.

    Chris thank you som much! You're really helpin' me Got the Loomis book so "lets get ready tooo rumbleeeeeee"

    I couldn't resist and tried zbrush well I suck at sculpting but it was so much fun (I don't know how to use this program so i just had to do some prtsc)Got to learn it and try it with tablet.

    That's very good for a first attempt, Cukier.

    Regarding the Andrew Loomis book, it's the 'ball & pin' exercises (at least I think that's the name), which I recommend repeating until they become instinctive. They helped me more than any other exercise to capture the proportions of the face.

    Would be great to see a whole A4 page of these studies, experimenting with different angles of the head.

    pst, szkicowcy w tym tygodniu w niedzielę 18 kwietnia.


    Pretty much what cas says applies - amp up the contrast to show form. It's good to make a blob of near-black (80-90% gray) to pick with the eyedropper tool from, so that you never go to full blacks too soon. This way you'll never have those extreme shadows and extreme highlights you can see in many a beginner's work.

    One more thing: on big chests like this guy with a shield and a spear, nipples go almost below the muscle. Now they're much too front-center.

    There are exceptions, though.

    Hi Pawel!

    Yeah, I heard about the shocking tragedy over the weekend. My grandmother said the atmosphere in the streets is very solemn. I can well imagine how it's affecting your job.

    Still, surprised you managed to get some drawings in. Don't worry if you're not happy with them. This is how everybody starts out but you'll soon get the hang of them.

    Try to keep in mind perspective when you're doing these exercises. As I've illustrated below, you should see less of the further side of the face if the person is looking away. In the majority of your drawings you've tended to make the eyes equal distance and size from the nose.



    By the way, I've restarted my ConceptArt thread too!

    Happy to read that you have a regular sketch-group going in Warsaw. I'll have to join you when I'm next in town.

    Keep the drawings coming! These exercises are a very important foundation to drawing heads.

    Chris ! thnx again! now I see heh flat nose well I'll correct it. Yeah and the atmosphere here in Poland is well like sf novel -nobody can belive what just happend and media ohhh man -hell unleashed.

    did some noodle-doodle (my anatomy sucks so ..but its all from imagination)





    i know that eyes and face of this guy are really bad but I'll repaint them tomorrow.

    ok - long story short - I didn't give up I had some issues with my work .Ok here are some really bad drawings proportions still sucks and everythin' else too
































    and somethin from my hobby fantasy sculpts -I made it with fimo soft its 4 cm tall (fimir creature from warhammer world) painted with acrylics


    and some goblin runnin' from squig (fimo+acrylisc)
