The main jobs that CA users do or aim for?

I'm a little confused as to what i want to end up as is called.

Like, what do the people at Massive Black and Imaginary friends do? Is it illustration or concept art or both, or other things i haven't even mentioned.
And what other kind of jobs do people here aim for?

Forgive me if i sounds ignorant, but it's simply because it's the truth, i lack knowledge and now i'm asking for answers.

Awesome artists get rich. You guys just don't love art enough to get rich. Maybe if you cared about money more you might have more motivation to get awesome.

It's what you want to do that counts. How far do you dream?

I didn't think it was possible to be called an artist when you have nothing to say. It's like being a writer who publishes individual words as books and expects to be praised for it.

Personally I think illustration or maybe comics, since I like writing stories, seems to be the most fun. But I'd probably be pretty content as a concept artist too. Although somehow I feel that if I were to be in the gamemaking-business I'd like to be more of a designer than an artist

If I could support myself by writing and illustrating my own graphic novels that would be my choice, I didn't use to think that was what I wanted to do but I've realized that every picture that appears in my head comes with a story that needs to be told.. if it can be done I'll do it.. If not, then illustration or concept work would also be fun.

My sketchbook is bigger than yours.

    That's what I decided as a teen.

Now I am tempted by painting and concept art too, but I am going to make it my primary focus to learn how to draw and paint well enough until I can do something with it.

ZenzybaR, if you don't know what profession you want yet, don't worry about it too much. If you enjoy drawing and painting keep learning and focus on getting better.

You mentioned Imaginary Friends... I know some peeps over there, well, IFS Jakarta at least (know no one from IFS Singapore tho'), AFAIK, they do loads of things. Concept art (including storyboards), illustrations, comics, just to name a few.

As for me, in the future, I picture myself creating comic books and illustrations

Because of the "imaginary friends" part of this, I had thought of posting a smart-assed reply, but frankly I recommend deciding about general market considerations first. Are you gonna make book covers or video games?

I'd like to go into comic books, but i don't want to just do lines forever. So i'm thinking about illustration as well. But the way my teachers on my course talk about art makes me afraid to even touch illustration.

But thanks for the replies though, i'll keep looking into it.

What do you mean by lines exactly? As in linework? If so, don't limit your ideas to what can be done with something that, more than ever, is being recognized as an emerging form of literature.

That comic page looks French. And i don't think i've ever seena marvel or DC with one person doing lines inks and colours, or just painting everything.

Do people do illustration, comics, and concept art all at the same time, or at different times in their life?

yes, people do illustration, comics, and concept art all at the same time....

you see, illustration is the way to do comics, and conceptualizing like scenes even characters on a script in a way of doing art. if y'know what I mean?

now, it's only a matter of choice if you want it to be personal or commercial.

what I mean is, doing what you want or doing what they (clients) want.

if you don't want to go to commercial art of concept art why take a look on Conceptual Art.

I would like to combine biology and art, is there really some way to do that?

Other then that I would like to work with designing stuff for games and such, but I would love to work with almost everything. And I want to learn how to do 3D stuff aswell and animate, got a friend who's learning that and that looks so fun!

everyone has their own goals and plans for the future. Mine personally is right now building my portfolio, getting some freelance clients, hopefully build a better portfolio thats more professional looking. Then I want to do concept art for a while, I love video games and designing characters and creatures. But I don't think I wanna do that forever, for a couple of years defiantly, but I feel I'd rather be my own boss and make my own schedule. I think I'd like to step away from video games and then go back to freelancing and doing fantasy illustration. Maybe even work as a freelance concept artists on movies. Who knows what journey life might take all of us.
I don't think it's good to limit yourself to just one job or goal. If you wanna do concept art, what do you do after you become a concept artists? Just be content and stay there forever? Or maybe from there work your way up to lead concept artists or art director. The more detailed plan you make I think will force you to really focus and work hard at the goal.

If your question is serious then you can become a medical illustrator.

There are a few specialized highly competitive graduate programs for medical illustration; they're listed in the link.

Medical illustration? Or illustration of species of animals and such (I don't know what that is called.) That is something I like as well.

Clayton Crain did a run on X-Force before Mike Choi which was entirely painted in photoshop. There was no typical comicbook line work to be found.
