Hello all... I've been lurking on this forum for aaaages and I've decided to grow some guts and start posting stuff up here, both the good stuff and bad .....
because I need to improve, and I need to start somewhere. SOMEWHERE. Any crits and advice will be most welcome =)
I will try to post something (ideally, one piece from the imagination, and one from observation) every week.
Here are my first attempts at digital still life and a random finished doodle, and some stuff from Dr. Sketchy's.
The white on white I've done after listening to Jason Manley's color lecture..
which reminds me, to do the rest also =)

Wow...you know, it seems to me that CA.org is certainly not your only hope. You're plenty capable of growing to be a badass all on your own.
This is very promising, I'm also incredibly happy to hear that you're working both from life and from imagination side by side. So frequently do people focus only on the referenced studies and forget entirely that they actually need to learn something from that to use elsewhere. Keeping your mind fresh, and utilizing what you've learned back and forth between the two realms should do wonders.
Keep going, I look forward to seeing more from your imagination. That last one is really cool.
Anyone who does washes and paints, I envy automatically - Keep posting and inspiring.
The white on white is delish ... I'll some day give in and buy that lecture.
The headdress patterns I digs. Your apple needs a light. Awesome man, just keep that mind open and absorbing ... Stay focused on what you need and need to work on.
And keep them wrists translating what's in that brainers. Oh and also, please work on those hands studies and pass over the notes when you can. ha!
Agh its been more than a week =S but oh wells.. gotta keep posting.
Some quick sketches for a picture i'm working on.
Not so concerned with technicality and accuracy at this point,
as the perspective is quite off on most of them,
but getting the mood and color right.
... aand some happy old fun time sketches from a while ago.
And rather unrelated to this post:
Does anyone know any painters I could look at for night time cityscapes (or whatever that came close to this)?
Preferably someone not contemporary - such as an golden age illustrator or one of the old masters.
so much for submitting things once a week. winter has taken its toll on me.
a hodgepodge of things, in varying degrees of grossness.
gross because it's old, and it's been moldering in my HD for too long.
1. from dr. sketchy's
2. old cleaned up crap for something or other
3. just for kicks
black on black
Wow, very promising start indeed.
I can't criticize much, but I like your digital pieces, they really pop out and aren't flat. Very nice use of lighting.
Like the first reply said, CA.org isn't your only hope. Man, if that apple was your FIRST digital piece, you'll go far. Mine was so shitty I deleted it from my HD and blocked it out from my memory .
Keep it up!

Believe my lies, for I tell the truth about them. Or would you rather me lie about telling the truth?

Looks good so far! keep it up.
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

I cant understand why you are not so confident about your work, because you have some amazing stuff here. I especially love the headdress and the details of the deva. Keep up the great work.
Thanks! These aren't my first digital stuff, I've been painting for a bit now and thought I should start being more active here, and relearn everything properly this time, considering how I learned next to nothing from art school and went through it with gimmicks and bad habits, and ended up burning out to the point where I couldn't draw in my sketchbook at all.
whoa whoa whoa the last image in your first post I AM DIGGIN THAT wicked textures loving the energy in your work
keep up the good fight !

I hope that it's not too late lol, but:
Check this guy out, he is mostly known for graffiti, but he also has got lots of cityscape related paintings done in oil, that totally rock in my opiton.
edit: haha, i just found out what "contemporary" means, so my post is a little offtopic.. but anyway, maybe it's still helpful.
I like most of your sb, the sketchbook pages and the digital stuff (especially that woman character design, done in different outfits.. and that lady in a profile look also) .. also that still life studie with sunglasses and leather gloves is looking quite nice. Keep it up.
I was pleasantly surprised when I checked this thread out. Geez, you need to edit the title cuz you're just putting yourself down. I really love your most recent sketch! Do you plan on taking it further?
@ mariusz Thanks! Glad you noticed the "blade runner" ness of them.. i wanted to make a cyberpunk piece and was thinking of that movie and ghost in the shell while doing them. =) Agh need to actually finish them...
Some pages from the sketchbook: the evitable sandman fan sketches -_-;;, & subway face studies.
Gonna try to get better about drawing daily, and freely.
And posting more often.
Here's some yucksome attempts at digital live figure painting through Livestream at Dr. Sketchy's NY & Philly at Smartcamp, 15-20 minutes for each pose methinks, and equally craptastic sketchbook pages. Not the best, but like I said in the OP, I'm putting everything up here, whether its shitty or not. So here ya go.
And last but not least, a birthday card I did for a friend who loves Metroid. Not a style I typically use, but though it would be appropriate, and plus, it's a quick way to bang out a card! =D Think I should do this for the rest of my friends from now on, it beats looking through stores at cheesy hallmark cards or that overly saccharine asian stationary stuff.

oh the consequences of being a lurker.
