Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook!

oh and check out my color link for some good color info. The oil mixing dosen't apply to digital art too much but the color keying is fantastic.

    Keep going GoGoJojo!

    fat baby is fat

@ Zazers: it's embarrassing to say, but I have no idea what color keying is! I'm definitely going to read it, though.

Here's that baby from earlier, semi-colored. I was trying to make him "so ugly he's cute", but he turned out kinda "so ugly, he's a little creepy".

That helmet is kick-ass. My 2nd child was an ugly baby - we called him Mr Magoo for the first 3 months. Yours is coming along nicely.

I didn't think it was possible to be called an artist when you have nothing to say. It's like being a writer who publishes individual words as books and expects to be praised for it.

HEY, did you do these with your new christmas tablet ! How do you like it???
My son wants a Wacom board? Would love to know what you think.
I know you just got it, and I hear there is a learning curve.

Thanks for the comments you guys. The day started out horrible. I was feeling really sick and anemic, but now I'm feeling better, and then I got some nice posts, and now it's finally snowing here! I got a late start, but I'll be posting some stuff later tonight.

I just wanted to answer your question, Mah ' Crub. I got a Wacom too, though I only had enough for an 8x6 bamboo. I've really only used the Corel Painter Essentials I got with it, but it really is like working with paints as far as my limited experience with them go. I don't know about the learning curve, but I got used to it pretty quickly. If your son thinks he would really use it, I would definitely recommend it.

Thanks for taking a peek at my sketchbook! I can see you're getting right into the swing of things with your new tablet, good job. The "Hitler Baby" is creepy, but that just makes him all the more interesting. I like what you've done with the details on his face so far. Keep it up! And although it's been said several times before, I'll say it again: That helmet is awesome!!

You seem to be learning the use of tablet faster then I was. Those shoes are fantastic. Well maybe the shoes are not so spectacular but the painting with the shoes is

And your line work has improved a lot. That "kind of self portrait" of yours (with the dagger (no wonder that one guy misses half a head)) is great. The lines, shading, everything.

    Stupid Painter!

@deusExMatteo: I love it too, and you know what? That texturing was just a fluke! I think that there was oil residue left on the plate when I put the aquatint on, and that made the acid etch it like that. Awesome...
@Mokhi: I collect food shaped erasers, and got that one for Christmas.
@Mr. Spect: I wonder if anyone has noticed that there aren't any laces in those boots...I'll get on to that when I have a chance.

So I pressed save, and it pulled the "is not responding" thing, so I don't have enough done on the guts pick to warrant an update on it. But here's a wip of Loathsome for the DFWDELL or whatever that acronym is. Trust me, It won't look like it's melting when I'm done.

There's no way to start a new decade then without pants.

[edit] I just realized that that could be taken differently, depending on where you live, so let me clarify: by pants, I mean trousers.

Talking My Rant, along with crap I drew

NicG, I'm just trying to get as much done as I can before I start pre-calc and physics. Dad didn't want me going into art, because mama went to art school and he did photography(now he's an accountant), and neither of them were happy with those careers.
So I'm going into geology and wanted to minor in art, but dad doesn't even want that, he'd rather I minor in Japanese. But I figure with all the art classes I take already, I might as have art as a minor, so I'm going to have two minors. Lots of work.

Sorry, I needed to get that off of my chest. I know he loves me and just wants best for me. And I will still be posting at least one thing a day, I promise!

Here you go Myllys, along with a girly looking Pxelslayer. (Sorry, Pxelslayer.)

Can I presume the grey guy you where talking aboot was the one with his guts hanging out of him? He'll probably look more interesting then my character (or at least in a gruesome sense).

HAha that baby was awesome. And I really like the sketches up above.

Spice up the eyes in that last portrait. Now they're basically black blobs in a white colour. SHow more form of the eye add some speculars and draw the iris. THe iris is very interstnig to draw and has lots of hue shifts. PLenty of stuff to show.
Not too fond of the yellow highlight. Just pick your medium skin tone slide the value slider to around 75 and the saturation slider to like 20 and make it a bit more yellowish, That should give you a more realistic look.

    Keep em coming.

That's too bad about your parents views. I wish it weren't true but I have a feeling a lot of us are pushing against the same things. My dad is a photographer, but for the military, and my mom is a financial planner who really wants me to be able to make a living. Actually, I think it makes for better art to have to struggle for it, it makes you realize how muchyou love it that you can't give it up. Keep fighting!

Why don't you try laying out a few pages of your graphic novel in roughs? It could be good to work on your compositions and laying figures out in relation to each other (What I'm working on now too) and it's never to early to try, at the very least you'll get a good idea of what you need to improve to get there.

The colors in the cg'd face turned out great. You've sure got a lot of drawing done.

I liked geology too and seriously considered it as a career. I actually ended up in health care. I never really considered art as a career. When I graduated high school I was already pregnant and really needed to choose a career where I could support myself. since I lived in a VERY economically depressed area, health care made sense and to be honest I LOVE what I do. Sometimes, though I really think about pursuing the art more I'm just not in a place to do it yet.

You should follow your heart. Take the art classes you want to take while you have the opportunity. Doing one thing doesn't have to make the other impossible-it just makes the work that much harder but art can be fulfilling even just as a hobby.

It's too bad you feel like he's not supportive of something you love but it's good that you know that he wants whats best for you. Don't feel bad. I think all of the paintings I gave to my parents in college found their way to the attic and even now my mom usually just says "Oh that's nice, honey" if I show her anything. I know they love me but they just don't get it. They don't have to get it-as long as I do.

In the end it's about what makes you happy. Hang in there and don't give up what you love for anyone.

That sucks that your parents weren't happy with those careers. They can't let their past experiences cloud your future though, that's not fair at all. I hope you find a happy medium with them
