Dungeons and Dragons illustration dump(Featuring some trains and a jedi)

Hello, I haven't had anything near finished worthy to post here since forever. Meanwhile I have accumulated quite a few thing delving deep into the realms of fantasy illustration . Here's my first couple of sets of illustrations was working whenever I had the time last year. Doing some proper illustration aside from the usual concept art has been really refreshing and challenging, helping me realize a bunch of useful things and discover many many thing that I need to practice and improve. So here they are, all the critics and comment that you manage to come up with will be greatly appreciated.

The most recent ones come first. Those can be found in the flowing books:

you have some really nice stuff here. though you are working mostly on top of a b&w base your use of color is really solid and I like how you kept an overall painterly finish.
    thanks for sharing!

These are nice. I do notice that your images are very busy, which is both a strength (lots to look at) and a weakness (visual clutter). It becomes a weakness when it is hard to determine at-a-glance what is happening in the picture. It is a strength when it draws the viewer in to the action.

these are very interesting, great use of colour and composition.
No need to comment on technique as it is always evolving. It looks great though, really nice mood in all of them but if I had to give some feedback it would be to work on your edges and focal points!

    Cheers

Remarkable compositions, on the whole! Really great use of big, bulky shapes and strong lines. The only piece that doesn't work for my is the Purple Dragon. A bit to much going on and a few too many colors. However, you obviously pulled off a similarly complex scene marvelously, right below it. Makes me really want to get into another 4E campaign

Great works in here, beautifull compositions (tough no instant-reads they are enjoyable to look at I think).
One thing that I'm lacking is the feeling of light. Right now everything looks like kind of matte surfaces with diffuse lighting. At the same time this gives your work a unique flair which I rather like. It's most noticable in the effects like the lightning etc...

Beautiful work. I love the motion you create. I agree with PieterV, the light could be worked out a bit more in some of them, and a little fine tuning in the focal areas. But that's just icing on the cake- these are great. The best part to me is the bold and dynamic shapes you are using.

Many thanks plus even more stuff

Hey, thank you all guys for the positive feedback and great comments!
I've poster some of the initial b&w sketches, studies and proposals in my SB check them out here if you're curious1

Initial b&w sketches, studies and proposals for D&D Illustrations

mr. m - thanks, man. Glad you like the colors. Unfortunately my colors usually suffer a lot form the fact that I start adding them rather late on top of a relatively finished and solid b&w sketch. All this makes the process of coming up with the right color palette and the final rendering too slow and tedious, which often results in an image that doesn't look so fresh and spontaneous as the ones I start directly in color.

Tom K - Yes, all PS, aside from my initial messy pencil thumbnails which I'll try and post later.

Dahami - thanks for the critique, some of them are busy indeed. I's currently one of the main things I'm trying to get the hang of - managing the levels and balance of detail in large compositions.

Dizon - Yes, maybe some distance would have worked better for this one. Composing characters together in a scene is not a trivial matter it seems . It's something that will require further studies and practice.

hurricane - thanks, this means a lot coming from one such as you (one of the guys I admire most around here ). And you have no idea how much this single comment about "working more on the edges" has helped me! It's been something I failed to notice and realist for a loooooong time. Thanks again.

DanielC , D@niel, emrahelmasli - Thanks guys, for the positive feedback. It means a lot!

Dementist - Nah, you've gone to ligntly on it. The one with the purple dragon is a mess. I was this close to not posting it at all. Definitely the least successful from the series. Turned out to be a bit more than I could handle at the moment.

PieterV, karichristensen - Yes, you're totally right. Light and materials are some of my weakest point. Will require tones more of studies and practice to improve. Especially studies from life, something critical I've being missing a lot.

OK, here are some more random finished pieces I've done recently and not so recently, the older ones are kind of obvious I think. Enjoy!

Firs, this one is about and year and a half old and was the test I did when aplying for my current job as a concept artist at Splash Damage on BRINK.

Here are a couple of illustrations I did a couple of years ago, for Star Wars Galaxies the trading card game.(aka. SWG the TCG )
At that period I was massively influenced by a certain artist you could easily guess. Many thanks to him!

ps. Square format is a tricky thing to make a proper composition in.

just stunning, all of these images look like they were a ton of fun to make. Also, I read the large article on Brink in Edge just the other day and it looks fantastic!
