Since when do we need justification for watching something? Part of freedom of speech is the freedom to pay attention. A belief that other people should not take in any information for whatever reason is just as bad as trying stop people from expressing themselves.

The people who did something wrong here are the ones who committed the crimes, and yes, they should be punished. However watching is not wrong, and to imply that one needs justification for SEEING something leads towards a totalitarian outlook that I can not tolerate.

Some things are not meant to be seen and those who enjoy and produce that (real) shit need to rot in jail for till their last breath of life.

I meant justification for him personally, not for everyone. I was simply wondering why he would want to watch so many videos of that nature.

I think this is where I'll settle on this topic. The example about the military training videos was a good one; why be a soldier if you can't handle death? I also think the fact that the boys who did the 3guys1hammer thing were stupid enough to upload them to the internet is good in the fact that they were easily caught. However, what I'm trying to get at is, when one can research these videos and find out what is in them without actually seeing them, why does everyone feel they need to subject themselves to them? I'm not saying that watching these things will cause people to go out and do negative things as well (that's an example I absolutely hate; the Columbine massacre did not happen because of id Software and KMFDM). I do believe, as others have said, that this kind of stuff affects you negatively period.

That is none of anyone's business but the person who chooses to watch the stuff. He owes you no explanation.

No, but we (personal we, as in, me) are entitled to draw certain conclusions about the character of anyone who would choose to view such things as entertainment.

....define entertainment I wouldnt say interest = entertainment. You might as well judge people who'd take part in criminal justice or medical fields, since who would want these types of jobs knowing what they might see one day.

Interest or entertainment, you are voluntarily filling your head up with messed up shit

That can not be a good idea.

Yeah, the world is a messed up scary place, a casual glance at a history book would tell you this. Why fill your brain with "Kittenstab.mpeg"?

People watch horror-movies to get scared, and people watch snuff films to get scared, or out of a morbid interest. I don't think anyone needs to justify to anyone that they watch those clips, human curiosity seems to drive us to seek feelings that are uncomfortable. I still maintain my position that I won't give them the attention I think they were created to recieve.

As for Hollywood doing films about serial killers, how many of those films ACTUALLY glorify the killers? A lot of them focus on their human side, but showing even serial killers as human isn't necessarily a bad thing, there is rarely such a thing as black and white in the world.
