Im a 22 year old guy from Sweden studying Industrial design atm.
After beeing here admiring all the great art for a long time, i finally decided to show you some my own stuff.
Most of these where done during some lectures at school (i do listen to the teatcher while im doing sketching them )
Some of them are not finished since the lecture ended or i got bored with them.
It also shows in some of the details, since i tend to cheat and dont work on some parts when i get bored and just want to finish it
Hope you like it. Would love the critique and im happy to answer any questions you would have.

Nice sketches man! I'd suggest using photo ref for solving some problems, especially about those grotesque bodies you are trying to achieve. Try to understand how the muscles, skin and fat interact in the structure of various body shapes (fat/skinny, old, etc). and those sketches will improve a lot in quality.

just started trying out digitalpainting. one of my first tries.
I want to try out colouring one of my monsters but dont rly know where to start. happy to reasive any tips.
@ Abrodos. thank you. yea i know, but its hard sitting with photorefs while in lecture but i will try to studie more bodys and do more lifedrawing
two more digitalpainting. done for a class, where we was supposed to take the charater of a grasshopper and turn it in to a product. one back and side view.
tried out sketching with a ballpoint pen. not so used to it.
thx for the comment, like your stuff as well - nice rendering and concepts. Watched the "creature design" dvd from massive black yesterday night and really digged it, think you would enjoy it to. Don't know why I'm promoting MB's stuff on their own site though

Hey man, thanks for stopping by at my SB! I decided to come and return the favor! Nice start for a sketchbook here, really lovely pencils! The monsters look great, but my favourite is the figure study up the page, great work with that! Id love to see some more stuff Later!
Halloj! Good start man. I think you're rendering is great, and some of the monsters are looking good. But I suggest you should do some more anatomy studies to balance things out a bit. Try to get your hands on Bridgman's and Rubins books if you don't have them. And draw more from life!

Your stuff looks good. Keep doing what you're doing but study from life more often. You take figure drawing classes? If not, do so ASAP. It will help you BIG TIME! Also, look into anatomy books for artists. Stephen Rogers Peck has a good one. That's a good place to start.

hey thanks for stopping by my SB, i like all the sketching you're doing, dig the hatching! I think some more studies into form or anatomy will help you push your characters to the next level, keep doing what ur doing, it's looking great!!
haha yeah i like how everyone have said that havnt had time to do that much studies, but tried looking at some faces for portraits. here is one. will try to make more soon.

You're good at rendering (as others have pointed out already), but you should look more on your lines too! Not make them too sharp for instance since that kills all of your shadows, makes it look really flat. Maybe that's what you're after? Otherwise, I'd take a look at that. The last piece is a good step in the right direction. Keep up the good work!
yeah try to put some more contrast to your figures i gues im not top artist or something just suggesting might be that im wrong but trying out new stuff is always fun
and try out like from different perspective for more mm dynamic looks

thanks for all the input guys! it helps alot that motivates me more. will try to draw some more during the x-mas break i just got rly needed to rest since we had lots to do at school last couple of weeks (sleept one hour last night).

so even tho i should go home and sleep i got so motivated when i scanned the last pictures, that i stayed and made one more.

thanks for dropping by my sb. solid monsters. maybe its just the photos but i suggest using a softer pencil to get more contrast. keep it up and study some anatomy to make your drawings more believable = )

no its not just the photos i only have a HB pencil atm, donno where my set of pencils gone... buying new ones over x-mas.
here is a digital exercise i just did rly quick. i wanted to do face first but after 10 minutes i got frustrated and did this instead. would rly love to some tips for a newbie on digital painting.
it looks like it floating is it beacuse the cast shadow is that much of which makes it look that way or what? did it from my head so the drop shadow went the wrong way and didnt feel like redoing it
so i did a new one in five minutes and changed the shadow. not floating as much now i think.
had to force myself into try out another face. but made it easier for myself this time doing it more cartoonie.
just an WIP. would love some feedback before i go on.

As for the last exercise - why no reflected light?? Check out the thread on color - the dude goes through those ball exercises.
You gotta use more reflected light and figure out where to place the darkest dark, to give the illusion af 3D. As for conceptual light(non-realistic) the only thing that matters is to show the form. Its a bit complicated system - but the way the russians teach it is, that you think in terms of planes located on a basic cube. Then you simply decide what planes to have the most shade - usually up plane is 100% light, down plane 100% shade, and side plane 50% - or you can do one side plane in light, the other side plane in shade etc. It just helps to think in terms of a broader organisation of light.
Then you model the edges - where the form changes. At these edges you usually use the darkest tone. But how dark this dark tone is, also depends on the location of the plane(down, side, up etc.)
On top of this, you think in terms of atmospheric perspective - what is in front or focus has the highest contrast.
In general the eye move towards the dark tone, thus you can control the focal point.
And sorry to say that it only gets more and more complicated... But in general, experimentation works the best - and of course to copy Leonardo or Michelangelo.
But all this takes time and your skills already seem to accomplish the essential(in other words, you are doing GREAT!).
I really dig your creatures but there's something...doughy about all of them. They are all very well rendered though!
