I glazed in a butt load of non local color into the eyes and cheek area today, and i kind of went a little insane because i worked on it for like 4 hours straight and it's starting to spoil, if you know what I mean. The hair looks atrocious.

Still looks very good, though... like the cool/warm contrasts.

I added alot more light blue tones to his face, which you can't really see from the photograph. He looks alot less "hollywood" now haha in the words of my art teacher. I also made his nose longer and extended his cheek by his beard just a tad. I haven't touched anything but the face in a few days. I can't wait to take the final picture with a real camera! (I've been using an iphone for everything else)

basically just experimenting but it came out alright, i'm really into super saturated colors recently.

so my two art teachers at my school basically told me that the portrait i've been working on is a huge pile of shit, does anyone have any suggestions for a different background color?

    The Ronin portrait?

Can you be more specific about their critique?

Yes, the ronin portrait. They said that the blue background was horrendous, and said I needed to put him in more of an atmosphere. He needs to be emerging from some place a little more. We're thinking a flat olive green maybe for the new background.

Could be... I'd really need to see it in person before I could agree or disagree.

Like the Craig Mullens study.... pay attention to ears. They are one of the most interesting sculptural/structural studies on the human body.

THIS IS IT. There's still alot that I don't like about it, like his hair, chest, and ear, but I just can't work on it anymore. I certainly learned alot, though!

wow I really enjoy those pastel drawings.

Its such a hard medium for me, i end up doing little more than a finger painting every time I've tried.

so i started this painting today, acrylic on linen. i'm ALMOST done with it, I just need to make her look more sad, and fix her eyes, i've been staring at it for a while and they're kind of looking in different directions. i also want to glaze some red over her eyes a little bit, to not make it look like she is crying, but to make it look like she WAS crying. i dunno if that makes sense.

    voila!
    approx 6 hours???

a quick portrait i did tonight in acrylic. it's so funny how all the inaccuracies in a painting expose themselves as soon as you look at the photograph of it.

acrylic and white paint marker on panel, it's a pretty awful picture of it, the colors are much more vibrant in person.

Great update; You have a very unique style which I like. Your colors are and skin-tones are very well chosen, they show a lot of depth and a very solid understanding of color theory. Keep it up!

Amazing work, I'm impressed. Loving the pumpkin still-life, great to choose blue paper.
Sorry, no crit at all. Keep at it!

update on my portrait, i painted the earrings in, played with the hair and worked with the skin tone..... the mouth is giving me a really hard time. Everything south of her face is still just the underpainting and completely untouched! The photo kind of drowns out all the orange tones I have in her face, but really, do photographs ever do a painting justice? no.

also, thank you all for the kind comments! I appreciate them alot.
