awesome stuff wicked imagination, but it starts to feel too repetitive, always a guy with a solid figure, how about old people? females? fat people? more dynamic poses would be great as well, explore more don't get stuck in your comfort zone it's very easy to stay where it's comfy push yourself to where you don't want to go and you'll be amazed after a while where you'll land.

Danny_K: Dude, i think your absolutely right. i have been very lenient with my subject matter. im not choosing to do anything to drastic because im simply still trying things out... so i sepose i could say im intentionally not putting to much on my plate, but because of that, i could end up starving myself since im only eating one piece of broccoli... that make sense? anyways, i really appreciate the comment. ill try an and grab a bigger plateful next time im at the PS buffet.

amazing sketchbook, you rendering technique is jaw dropping.
as someone said, try to go out of your comfort zone, maybe avoiding the "human" form and trying to get a more varied themes.
lovi´n your pencil lines as well

Pretty sweet work dude. You've got a great handle on rendering and textbook anatomy. But it's frustratinggg to see you work with such skill and stay in such a tight comfort zone. You've got it in you to be an awesome artist, and we all want to see it happen. Sorry for echoing what has already been said and I won't lecture you on all of the other possibilities you have with your characters. Small things, like varying your lighting setup, can really go far. Sorry if I'm boring you with what you already know, just want you to get better dude. Keep it up and keep posting!!

thanks everyone, the feed back has been inspiring. like a few of you said, i have to push myself into doing things im not comfortable doing. its gonna feel gross and sticky and confusing, but i guess thats how learning is supposed to feel!

    so with that said.

i have another standing pose sketch.

    ha!

ill push myself later. for now, heres a WIP.

Just have to say, if you keep saying tomorrow it will never be today. With that said, keep it up man, you definitely have a handle on rendering, lighting and anatomy. I think your shapes could use some more design though, they feel very basic. Just mess around with size, rhythm, continuity, bounce around and it will start coming together. You've got serious skill but like you said, you gotta push yourself! Cheers man, thanks for sharing these works.

half day at work, so im gonna reply to some msgs finally.

Ivan Turcin: purple and orange go together well i think, complimentary a bit, so thats why i choose those colors for that dude. and thanks !

Broken Lawnmower: thanks for taking the time to look through!

Metal Fingers: hey man, thanks for lookin!

Philosiflo: color stuff is on the move! watch out for more!

William b. Hand: yeah RDR is amazing.. and speaking of great games, SC2 is where im spending all of my down time! Dernick is my nickname on there.. dunno how the Real id thing works yet, but if you or anyone plays, then hit me up!

Auspiciouspanda: what a name! and thanks, rendering is the funnest part, but all the rendering skills cant save me if i dont know what the hell it is im rendering. to me thats priority. shape and anatomy. working on both atm. but thanks!

Hunchback: yeah i did have the saturation up to high in that one. i find that my monitor here tends to make things look a little greyer then they do on other monitors, so ill keep that in mind.

    DeathByChris: Thanks dude!

Icecold: that means a lot dude, inspiration is what it takes to motivate and to change. so thats pretty cool to hear. and you have a great day too!

jozulus: haha there is a bit of a doughy kinda cookie feel to that one isnt there.

    dleoblack: thanks

Metal Fingers: yeah, haha i can see it too, the purple one is always the "queerest" isnt it!

Hellbeard: glad you like it man! color is tuff! and light is just a bitch! but im glad you dig it!

    AliceA: thanks lady!

fudgeloaf: yeah, poses, poses, poses. its brutal. i havent gone to any life drawing in a long time so thats probably why im just opting for simple standing poses. im pushin myself tho, some will come eventually.

LAL: they come from my brains!

    GEB: sweet dreams!

    Hellbeard: whys that?

    Pideonkill: thanks!

Konstruktion: thanks dude, i like it too, hes spitting stuff, i like spit.

MattGamer: Thanks dude, and thats because hes a big influence, among others from the art world, but hes up there! thanks again!

    Verehin: Thanks!

MattGamer: yah, i bailed on that blue dude simply because lunch was over, and i had to get back to work. and when i go back to some sketches a second time, i simply say " fuck it, id rather start something new." which is what i 99% of the time do. is that good or bad? i dunno, regardless, none of this stuff is meant to be finished anyways.

sevarenge: thanks dude! glad you like it!

Ricardo Robles: really, thanks man, means a lot. and yah, like i said before, comfort zone will totally be left behind very soon. thanks again!

Jasper: Hey dude, thanks for the words. im super happy that im getting such a strong reply back from people letting me know what to work on, its the reason why im doing this sketchbook. and ill be working on those things from here on out. and maybe some day ill actually land myself a gig in the industry. thats the goal. thanks again!

hücumkedi: strange is funner for me, the grosser, the better. thanks!

Metal Fingers: yah i was being a bit sarcastic, but ur absolutely right, im not someone to go and put something off forever, it will just eventually irritate me and get into my head. so ill be workin on these things asap! pushin myself more and more.

Mussy: thanks man, honestly i just started PS 2 and a half years ago, and have fallen in love ever since. thanks!

Anyways, that was long overdue. now heres todays sketch....next time, shit will be crazy. promise!

Nice work dude. Can't help but echo what the others have said so far about varying the poses, but at the same time, there is nothing wrong with searching out the forms the way you do. You are creating a solid foundation where it won't be that hard in the future to 'spice things up,' as they say.

That being said, pherhaps you could try to go a little outside "brainfart" territory (apologize if that word is a little degratory) by incorporationg character and personality to your designs, using actions and different light situations to generate a sense of narration. I'm not much of a concept designer or illustrator, but from what I have seen, this is what usually sells the picture. Think of it as an aquired skill that could possibly kickstart your career

Finally, your colouring is pretty restricted to each area's local colour, wich makes your pictures pretty monochromatic. Painting still lifes from life, doing some (self) portraits and studying master paintings will probably lead to some useful discoveries.

So yeah, I just blurted out a bunch of obvious advise that is easy to give and hard to pull off, 'cause it's stuff i need to accomplish myself

Metal Fingers: Glad you like it dude!

jozulus: thanks man, i think its f*ckin cool that you like my stuff! haha

    MattGamer: thanks bud!

Rushlord: glad you like it dude!

VanDog: if there were a (free) light/color boot camp id be there, but for now, like you said, im just self training. thanks for stopping by!

AndreasM: I appreciate the comment, very much! and i agree with everything you said. ill definitely be pushing myself into doing more than what ive been pooping out during my lunch breaks (or when im procrastinating from doing my actual work) here at my place of employment. its a matter of time, i suppose, by which i mean i only have so much time to explore things. sure i'm taking small bites at a time but im working my way up to taking bigger chunks of mystery sauce and dabbing that onto what i already know. eventually ill be pumping out stuff that works more efficient and maybe even some stuff to throw into a portfolio. But like i said, i completely agree with your observations, and i intend to move forward with those things in mind. thanks again!

okay so this is just an update of that floating dude... might move on from this.

I'd move on from this, only because I MUST SEE THAT ASTRONAUT GUN ARM GUY FINISHED! Holy smokes that looks to be a rad concept. On the above one, maybe some more armor along his midsection or one of the thighs? The purple codpiece with no undersuit, just bare skin looks a bit strange to me. Keep it up dude!

    I'm back D.

I see whole bunch of new rock solid superb anatomy, power ranger dudes in your latest updates hehehe ;]

Now i suggest to read a good lecture regarding composition and study old masters, it's THE most important thing you must write inside your brain in my honest opinion.

I wish you all the best, feelfree tos hare some thoughts in my sb.
P.S how long did it take you to "master" the anatomy?
    Which books you preffer?
