Oh boy, this is gonna be a lot of writing, haha. I'll try to organize this best I can.

Sorry I've disappeared guys. I've shamefully diverted all my energy to deviantart lately. :/
However I'm back and ready to have the SHIT critted outta my work (too many compliments
on DA have gone to my head, XD ).

    ~TRIP TO LUCASFILMS~

But yeah, thought I'd share a little of my travels in the past month or so. I was able to claim
my prize for winning that LucasArts competition back in April (?) or so ago, and as you can
well imagine, it was a LIFE CHANGING experience. I was able to fly out to California and meet
some extremely powerful and amazing people while I was there. I also had my first face-to-face
portfolio review there (4 of them actually, haha), and got some really good feedback from everybody.
I might even go as far to say that they really liked me (unless they were just being nice). But it was
an amazing, life-changing experience that gave me some real goals to shoot for, and my advantage
is (being that I am still relatively young in my career) that I think I can really make a difference in
    achieving what I want!

But enough about me, here's a (very) little bit about the actual trip and what LucasArts was like:

Well, while being vague enough that I don't get sued, haha, the campus where they are located
is BREATHTAKING. I can't even put into words how beautiful it would be to work there. So I won't.
And every building is an active art gallery. No joke. EVERY hallway is adorned with paintings from
George Lucas's private collection and is a real treat to see. Every corner of their facilities is dedicated
to appreciating the arts, both traditional (with HUGE matte paintings) to their own movie posters,
to Norman Rockwell's. It is really inspiring. I was given an extremely generous tour of the place,
and again for fear of losing my house, I'll just say that I went to places that some employees aren't
    normally allowed.
And finally, the only slightly disappointing part of the day (but not really), was when I came
out of one of my interviews and the other competition winner was grinning ear to ear. I was
immediately like "WTF, what happened?" and he said "Dude I just came out of the bathroom and
George walked by!!!!!!!!" I was understandably giddy as a school girl.

    RIFT

So yeah, that was pretty fun. I also took second in the Rift Create a Colossus Challenge, and then
the same entry got a Daily Deviation so I think you can understand why I've spent so much energy
over there, haha. However, it was INSANELY awesome to be competing with such talent (if I'm not
mistaken, there were some WoW guys in there, among other pro's), so it was a great honor to have
my work grouped in with the likes of them. And the best part is with all this prize moneez, I can afford
my dream computer and hopefully productivity will only get better from there.

    COMMENTS:

SnobbyOo: Thanks man! I really needed it with all those amazing colossi! And absolutely, studies
    are on their way.

    Clipper: Glad I could help.

Odayga: Thanks! And but of course, they aren't the "masters" for nuthin, haha. And I did! There's
one further up the page in fact, but more are sure to come, don't worry.

And yeah definitely, if you come up with something rad to do, send it my way and we can keep bouncing
    it back and forth.

Wanderer: Haha, NEVER! It takes a while, but what doesn't in life? If it's what you love you'll make
    it work.

zy: Huh, that's very interesting. Thanks for turning me on to that.

Vaejoun: Thanks! What is your DA btw? (I assume you have one if you know that I won, lol).

Xelar: I absolutely know what you mean. I'm not sure where it came from, but I gathered this
notion that the darkest darks should be added in the final stages of the painting (obviously not true),
and because of that I noticed everything was flattened quite a bit. Thanks for picking that up!

Odayga: Hey again! Haha, thanks, I will.

Mike L: Thanks! Glad you liked it.

Sandyman: Yeah, it was a large combination of things. Overlay of textures, brushes, playing with
contrast/sharpness. Couldn't tell ya the exact process now, cuz I don't quite remember, haha.

Woah, glad all that writing's over with, haha. Now for some recent work:

Current entry for the DR. Pepper contest:

Revised panda warrior (not sure if I uploaded this already...):

    Current WIP:

    Basically done now:

    And of course some sketches:

One last thing, anyone that is on DA too, hit me up and let me know! Love to see
some of you guys over there if I start neglecting again.

Glad to hear you had such a good time at Lucasfilm, well deserved! Although I've never been there but I met George Lucas once in London - he was very laid back, a very impressive man!
Your artwork is amazing, I'll have to snoop around DA to see what you do there. The girl with the torch and the pack of wolves literally made me jump as I scrolled down from the WIP to the finished work, not something I've expected Great work!
Following your work is fantastic because you've got so much talent and drive and as you've pointed out, so many years ahead!

wow love those two last digis u did,on the comission my only crit ,and it's really a minor one is that the lightning doesn't really feel like it's charging him.I noticed that later on as i was looking at the illustration and i guess that had to be one of the main stuff the viewer had to see.just that.REALLY love your work, great job, keep it up!

It's great to see how your work has improved since you started this sketchbook, definitely proves how worthwhile it is working in a community like this. I really like the panda warrior, such a fun, bright image and pretty funny too! The textures really make the image pop and the brushes for grass and leaves are really effective.

You must be having the time of your life. This shit looks awesome. The battle-bot with the shield IS kill... not just the plasma shot, but the way his back heel is digging into the ground and kicking up dirt. Lots of action for an inorganic form.

Dr. Pepper contest is way cool too. Damn. And that's just the last page. What's your name again? Daumier? Sargent? Didn't catch it. You'll be in all the papers, son. They gonna put you in movies (oh... they already are )

Gotta give you 5* and subscribe and then start at page one and make this face

Ebersol: Thanks! Yeah every once in a while when creativity is visiting some other person, I'll flip back to the first page or so of this book. Fond memories some of those. Thanks for dropping in!

Forrest_I: hey brosquito! I'll try, just for you.

p sage: Yeah, shit is pretty real right now. And school is starting up and I'm aiming to be one ambitious little Farker (TM Velocity Kendall). However, you're too kind with you're words. Be careful not to inflate an artist's head with too many compliments, as they are tormented creatures who deserve nothing less than to be squashed into the ground endlessly, lest they be stuck in infinite servitude dredging the aft end of their mind for stale and incorrect views of life. Or so the saying goes (I know it's not that catchy, but it'll stick I swear). Seriously though, I'm just tired and rambling until the coffee wears off so I can lay down in bed and not vibrate off the edge into a rude awakening, so thanks so much for your kindness!!!!

A small offering to the mighty Gods of Apathy (of which I praised ALL DAY today). Needed to do something of worth before nights end.

And this is the transformation of the above lion character.^

Dude, awesome work on that last motherload update!

I couldn't help but notice on the guy on post #369; the foot on his hind leg is pointing towards the viewer, while the leg itself is pointing away from the viewer! Like if it were somehow awkwardly twisted. Just letting you know ;D

Awesome stuff dude! I like how beautifully dynamic your paintings are, with some well used colours as well. Be cool to see you participate in CoW again as well.

Art is not about competing against others and being better than everyone else, but it is about competing against yourself and discovering your greatest potential!
