Well after countless thumbnails, color studies, etc. I took my original concept off life-support and let it die. I've started over.

Thoughts appreciated, although I just noticed a tangent with a tree and the shading of the rock. sigh.

Hey Matt_B nice one, although you got to fix those legs, you've got some major proportion issues.

Another fantastic round with lots of great takes by everyone. Almost everyone with a unique and interesting direction. That in itself makes this CHOW a success, imho.

Anyways, it's late and I just wanted to post some Wips that I wasn't able to earlier. Did a handful of line sketches (nothing too detailed or too elaborate...mostly to work out initial thoughts,) then scrapped that idea for a more blocking/shading method.

    CHOW 182 :: The MORRIGAN

Felt more fluid and visceral which I seem to favor.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna win this after seeing the how amazing all the other entries have been so far. Anyway this is my first attempt at a CHOW so let me know what you guys think so far.

I thought I'd go with the old hag look as thats the one I'm most familiar with when it comes to Morrigan. Might add a few crow feathers and stuff in the final post.

Here's how she ended up. No more time to work on this one but I think the result is decent. Posting now unless there is any last minute comments...

Never managed to finish mine sadly. Got a curveball in the form of freelance work so no time.

Here's how far I got from my initial thumbnail anyway.

Hopefully I'll finish her off in the future.

MisterE: That looks awesome! Really like your interpretation of her.

There's some really awesome entries this round though so i'll be sure to vote

Tons of great updates by everyone!

MisterE: I like your piece. It's got that feel of her being a boss (something a Goddess is.) I didn't realize all the intricate elements until I looked deeper (eg. the feathers from her head-dress...) nice work!

Stew9: A great start. Keep it up...you have a little more time.

Garth Cochrane: I like the "old hag" concept. Seems there are pretty much every age range depicted in this round. Lots of character in your version. A nice take indeed.

jspangler: Great piece. Well done. Nice fluid feel to it.

    PowleyMan:
heres my ref pic i was usin. pretty funny how far off i was now that i look at them side by side.
You know I kinda like that your version is very different from the reference photo. It has more zest, a whimsical feel, and original POV. It can be great if taken in either direction; I like where it's going so far.

Evil_Sloth: Looks great. I like the mood of the piece.

dashinvaine: Good design on the costume and I like how her hair is a hark back to the "Greek Goddess" from the Mythology we all have come to know. Just make sure to keep her weight in balance. Her source for keeping herself upright (her left leg/foot) should be right under the middle of her body (go down from her head.) Whatever a character uses to hold themselves up, should be directly below them (think "flamingo.")

thegrayslayer: Nice work on the feathers. The Dusk Till Dawn Morrigan? LOL. Very nice details on the blade.

PxelSlayer: Amazing. It has an "EPIC" feel to it.

AvisNocturna: Truly fine piece. Nicely done with framing her with the moon. Great execution with the color choices.

So many great pieces here...I can see a 10-way tie for this round easy.

    PLEASE READ THIS

    Hey guys!

We are well above the maximum 50 images that we can put into poll, so here's a few reminders for you, to make sure that you get in :

    1. Is your image attached?
    2. Have you provided or linked to wips?
    3. Have you named your image correctly?
    4. Is it on brief?
    5. Is it finished and polished?

Please keep in mind that we will probably have to make quality cuts this round. It is not personal if you don't make the bar! Just keep working at it and you'll make it in soon. :]

Alright boys and girls, it's 4:15 and I'm not gettin' this one done. To be fair I pretty much knew I wasn't gona from the get go, only having finally managed to set some time aside last night. But, I liked the brief and I said I would try to come up with SOMETHING, so, played around with this idea for fun

Did you know chess was invented in Ireland ?

Lots of great entries here !
