The TAD Discovery program started last week and I've been doing some pastel exercises for that... tricky stuff! I also finally got it together and tried oils for the first time. I still don't know much about colour mixing but I really enjoyed oils. The smell of turpentine is a bit dizzying but I here there are odourless mineral spirits you can use instead.
This week's TAD assignment is to do a conceptual portrait of a famous person. I picked Obama. There's just so much you could say about him... but that doesn't make saying it conceptually easy.

    Great SB!

Your Pirates of the Caribbean pic looked like a good learning experience. I'm fighting the urge now to go do some of those.

    Sketch dump!
First some sketchbook pages. I was honoured to be invited to a friends' wedding at the end of last year and rather than asking for gifts she asked for those of us who knew how to draw to do some drawings... what an awesome idea!

    BOMACHADO: Thanks man!

Reymus: No one's ever told me that before, thank you Reymus!

zerdron: Thank you zerdron! I'm trying to branch out from it at the moment.

Andrew_Jen: Thanks! I wish I'd made it a card but it was too last minute.

    miyuli: Thank you!

Blondebeard: I think there's a lot we can learn from movies. The colour and composition... there's an endless stream of stuff!

    Dy.laneA: Cheerios!

    sandeepbarot: Cheers!

    Mr.Alamo, C.: Thank you!

These last sketches are great! I assume the first ones above are in pen, I see you've got a lot more confidence with them than with pencil.
