Hey there, nice sketchbook so far! I would suggest that you focus more on structure in your head drawings. That will help you to replicate the portraits more accurately and aid you in your imaginative work in the future. You seem to mostly have trouble with centering the eyes, or sometimes the whole center line of the face will be slanted compared to the ears/outline of the head. Don't forget that you can flip the image to help alert you to symmetrical issues like these.

The dragon piece is very nice. For a crit, the sun in the back feels very arbitrarily added and does not seem to work with the rest of the image. If that sun were really the light source for the scene, the dragons would be backlit with rim lighting and harsh shadows (because when the sun is so low in the sky, it has a very strong directional light but does not light up the atmosphere well, so atmospheric light is very limited).

    Keep up the good work!

DaveGarcia Haha, thanks man lol, I'm on page 3 now :B LEVEL UP!!

FootstepsBeckon oh goodness me, I do flip my canvas like every 3 seconds, seems like I missed that mistake, how embarasing D: Thanks!

dierat Thanks!Haha I seem to have a problem with basically everything
How would one study the structure of the face? :3
Ahh...I knew the sun wasnt going to work :I .The sun isnt really the main source of the light, the main souce of the light is from the clouds...so basically theres light coming from everywhere! D:
    Thanks!!

And here I'm just exploring the anime/cartoon style.....I should be shot for making Konan so ugly D:>

You can try simplifying the face down into geometric shapes and planes, kind of like those planar heads some people use for studying faces.

You can also get some anatomy books that focus on the construction of the figure, like Figure Drawing Design and Invention by Michael Hampton.

Except that, as I said, there isn't much atmospheric light when the sun is so low in the sky. Your dragons have a few highlights here and there but the lack of strong shadows suggests that they are being pretty evenly lit from all sides as if from an overcast sky. Here's a tutorial that I found really helpful concerning light at various times of day: http://www.itchy-animation.co.uk/light.htm

And some sketches of heads with the above applied 'knowledge'
I tried to sketch the same person 3 times to see if I can actually manage to get them to look the same, used ref

    Hey ya
Got some good working happening here.
Remember that anatomy is not the sole path to good drawing, you must practice all manner of subjects and different approaches to drawing them.

You're doing a lot of drawing, but you would benefit from slowing down, doing less drawings but spending more time on each and make them as accurate as you can, doing this from life is especially good, hard but good.

A lesser issue in your technique is that there's very little range in the weight of your line work. Experiment with using lighter/thinner in combination with darker/thicker lines.

    Hope you find this helpful.

Hey, feller. Nice stuff so far! Particularly like these digital studies you have going on, looks like you're starting to get a grasp on digital. (I still struggle horribly with that medium). Nothing really constructive to say, just keep up the studies, really.

    Hi!

Thanks for the visit and extremely encouraging comment and rating! Much appreciated.

Love what you have going here...you have an epic, large feel to your work even when it's just a single character...you give it so much depth.

I loved this one from your first post.

And think this turned out great!

And I'm lovin the graphic feel of the last one ^^^^

Thanks again and keep up the great work!

Hey this is a great start to a sketchbook! you show a hell of a lot of promise, from what i can see you're definately doing all the right things... good balance of studies and personal work, keep things coming and you'll be awesome very soon and dont be afraid to really grind and repeat something until you get the hang of it, repetition hammers the knowledge into your skull a lot more effectively than you think, you just have to hang in there
more of the same, you're doing so well! ;D
