Someone please ... When does the final topic get posted? Will it be on the 28th or does it go up a day before or something??? When it is posted do I just post my image and my Icon in the final thread or do I need to post them in this thread first???? I have never done an EOW before so I am at a loss as to what to do to have my post ready for the final.

Ok here is my wip... Idea behind this is a nomadic tribe that is forced to move about the landscape due to massive environmental storms etc.

round about 24 hours before due date I will post the final burning thread. at which point you will pos tyour image and your OUTSIDE HOSTED icon to that thread. it is not nessisary to post in this thread at all, but this is the working environment for this challenge. if you wish to take advantage of the helpful critiques that your fellow artists have to offer, post your WIPS in here andsee what they have to say. If not you are certainly able to post in the Finlaal thread without posting here.
Seems foolish though because once it there, not one can comment or critique on it until after the poll goes up, at which point its too late to change it.

Thumbs up First thumbnails EOW - Absorber

Here are my first sketches. I think I'll go with the mountain setting.

A combi between the snow and rock mountain.
The caravan will be a traditional gipsy one combined with a mountainvehicle on 6 or more wheels

There not very nice but fine for starting thumbs
    Please comment and critique

Would be good if the finals thread could come up a day or two before the actual deadline, for the people that may not have acces to a computer on the final day.

Where do I imply I want to "run this show"? Was just a suggestion, Im new to this and dont grasp everything just yet, doesnt mean I deserve a snappy comment?

Whats the reason for not posting the finals thread at the same time as the wips thread? I can imagine it has something to do with increasing the quality of peoples work since they cant just post the first thing they come out with or something, but I ask to understand (not to take the piss).

basically Im saying the Final thread does come up a day before the deadline.
and that's just the way I do it.
And yes rather than having people commenting and such in the finals thread, which means I have to remove a bunch of posts before I can make a the poll, I wait till folks have a chance to put their work up in the WIP thread and get the expert advice on how to make it better. I find that the quality and finish of the work is generally improved by delaying the posting of the final thread until a short period before deadline.

the snippy comment is my way of saying , perhaps you should stick around a while and see how the show is run before you start telling me how to run it. As Some one who is new to the Forums and to EOW in Particular, welcome.. I do things the way I do sometimes because I am a volunteer and my time is incredibley short and precious. so many of the things I do because thats the quickest and easiest way for me to do them.

and any one who wants to work in Art or illustration for a particular purpose is eventually going to have to learn that Art Directors are capricious and notoriously crabby.... might as well get used to it

    Final

Hi guys, I thought I could upload my work with the caravans as sketch but that would be a dump. So I managed to fix my caravan a bit (by drawing/coloring with a mouse :@ )

Hope you guys like it! (Bcause I don't! :p)
    (First attachment is final)

I combined our latest wip's and I see NOTHING that compares.. Maybe one thing, but that would only count if YOU invented the spiky rocks among us in this world.
Second; I didn't drew a crappy looking monkey on my foreground, I did not use any steampunk silver wagons and you ain't got the slightest drop of snow in your environment. So don't try to bash me mate if you ain't got a clew where your heading to! (Attachment 2)

    gentlemen, "PLAY NICE"
now actually personally what I see that compares in these two pieces is a lack of concideration of value composition and depth. Both are working with in the same saturation and diffusion range in both foreground and back ground, and both have the same trilevel depth of field.

now I don't see or suspect any plagerism or copying happening here, all I see is two people who decided on the same compositional solution to a landscape problem which just happened to be the most readily obvious solution. I would recommend more time on your thumbnails. drop more ideas before you settle on the one you are going to polish. don't assume that your first idea is the best solution to the prompt. think outside the box a little,
I don't require process shots as they do in CHOW because they dilute the impact of the final image, which is, in the end the one the AD (in this case the voters) will see. But I give you the opportunity to experiment in the WIP thread so that you can take the time to find a unique and creative solution. In the end EOW is supposed to be a learnign experience. It is my hope that all of you will help me to make it one. and slinging insults at one another is ultimately , not helpful.

Thanks for the crits Chaos. I'll try to work with more thumbnails next time, but due my busy schedule I had no time to practice much on this image. A week is still a bit short for me to produce a great image

Apology for my insult, but I don't need someone on my back crying about plagiarism if there isn't any.

Hopefully I'll see you guys in the next eow!
