cannibalcandy, the image is easily finished enough for a final. Seriously, it's excellent. I just figured if was a WIP because you posted it here rather than the finals thread.

hey man, I just had a quick suggestion for you. I understand adding the bg for scale with the guy, but his armor has riveting that breaks that. If he's that small then his armor ought to be crafted and detailed with things that fit his scale correctly, or hint at it a bit better, know what I mean?

Retter: All of those look more interesting, I think. Good work. I’m curious to see the final version.

Wiggers: The candle isn’t working imo. Too close to the creature… makes them look like their glued together. It also steals the attention from the head. The scrolls are a nice add.

Orm Irian: Good work on the head on that final update.

Jakkas: I’m also interested in that story. Thanks for the vote. Nice work as always!

Jcpahl: It is a cyclop demon pig I'm seeing, right!?

Steve Somers: Looks very interesting. I really liked your satyr slayer, and the satyr showed a lot of anatomy knowledge. Thanks for the comment on btw!.

Lord M: Nice comical interpretation. I like the situation.

Jspangler: I totally understand your way of reasoning. I have done the same myself occasionally.

Blobs: Nice seeing you here. I’m sure that scene is going to be majestic!
…and I was certain that someone was going to make a HUGE familiar.

Mat B: I see some character in those sketches, and the coloured one looks really cool!
Nice work! (Perhaps a colder light source from the right?)

Cannibalcandy: I like it! Nice posture. I can feel the gravity.

Mr Wittman: I can’t wait to see where you going with this one!.

The rest: I’m not ignoring you… I just can’t find anything useful to say.

This is what I've come up with... I might do some minor touch-ups.

Thanks again for the comments! I feel like I can finish my creature till next monday, but the background probably will stay as it is at the moment- at least more or less.

Corn-Dog: I like number 16 the most- it has a pretty cool wing design and also the head and arms/legs fit together. Number 15 has a slight problem with the head (a little bit too big and it looks a little bit off), 14 also looks good, but somehow the head seems not to belong to the body, 17 looks a little bit odd to me (fish tail and wings together)... and 9 is a little bit too fat for me- so I would take 16.

Mr.Wittmann: Now the legs look much better, I also like the small details you added (as for example the small leaves).

Cloister: Nice picture, I especially love the 'breath effect' of the creature and how you have drawn Merlin there in the background. Also the lighting is neat.

Matt_B: That's a nice little creature, I especially love the warm lighting of the candle and head of the creature.

Labrynthine: Pretty nice mixture of different animals- I'm sure it will look awesome, once colored.

MasterStryke: Maybe you can give the skin a color (blue for example) and the plates one (gold for example) and slowly change the color, the nearer it is towards the body into a blue. I like the idea of this design, btw.

Vaghauk: Looks like a good idea- I hope you will find some time to finish it.

mattj324: For me it still looks very foxy, but it really depends how you will draw this. I would maybe mix some other animals with your fox to get a more original design.

..and finally, another update of my creature! I upload to original size now, since many of the details get lost if I make it smaller.

    Melins Pet Sketch WIP Obacmar

    Hey yo

I'm new to this, looks like fun, so here goes nothing..
    Merlin's pet..ahem
Well without much research, I was thinking Merlin might be a tough guy, but at the end of a day filled with curses, dragons, and demons, he might want a familiar that could provide a little comic relief.
This little furry guy fetches spell books, he can also store them by swallowing them. Kinda like a living memory stick. Regurgitating them on command.
Big mouth, little beady eyes, big dog-like ears. A babyish body with hind legs and hooves. Covered with fur.
    etc.
    suggestions before I refine?

Awesome work guys! Thanks for the great replies guys! I'll comment later, too tired right now, need sleep.

Ok I coloured mine with doubtfull result, removed the tail because it didnt look natural, although I wanted a tail but it ended up fucking everything up worse - even when I tried like 111 different tail poses.

    Merlin's Book Fetcher 02

    Hey I'm back

    Having fun here

The pet is regurgitating a book for Merlin..hehe
I don't think I will have him barfing out a book in the final, because you kant see his face
I would like to light the final with a back light and create the glowing fur. Trying it here, its just a gaussian / screen overlay. I probably blurred to much, oh well that's what tests are for.
    Hey NickyBeats nice ink work!
    ttyl

(edit)ok its later.. I got some poses. And it seems that the creature is taking on a mischievous streak. They are all based on a perch of books. I kinds like # 5 & 6 Some feedback would be appreciated

    merlin summons his familiar
The word ‘anarchy’ comes from the ancient Greek αναρχία in which αν meant ‘without’ and αρχία meant first a military ‘leader’ and then ‘ruler’. Anarchist society is one ‘without rulers’: a classless, non-hierarchical society.

It's pretty awesome to see the COW get the attention it deserves.

No time for crits right now, pretty late, I will say that it's great to have all the big guns stop by recently and to see the level go up with every round. Makes me work that much harder. Thank you all!

Thanks a lot, jspangler, Jaro, Orm Irian, Cloister , for commenting on mine. I will return the favour.

Mr.Wittmann - Very odd creature, is it made out of wood? I like the tail and the different horns you put on it. Will comment more as you progress on it.

scorge - Haha awesome! It's very well executed, but a tad bit dark for my taste, but that's just me.

lkjhgfdsa - Good use of colour contrast. Will you keep the familliar light blue or will you add more colours? Oh and cool insectoidic design, somehow I knew it was you when I saw it.

Obacmar - Hehe, love that creatures character. That chart you made is priceless, and your design fitts the creature very well. Can't wait to see more.

NickyBeats - Watch out on the left <--- whisker, its much smaller then the right one and gives it an odd appearence. Since the head and body is in line with the branch, the whiskers would also follow that flow.

3mMajster - Freaky creature. The head-swap really made it much better imo. Watch out on the owest hands, the pose looks a bit unnatural atm. Try look for some reference of someone doing just that pose.

Steve Somers - Freakin amazing! Don't know what to say except great job. The wings with eyes, inspired by Hellboy 2?

DLLShaggit - Hey nice design, looks better then the last one you had (the head). I am a bit confused on where the lightsource are coming from, it seems to be coming from all kinds of places.

MasterStryke - The feet doesn't look as if they were in line with the window stones. Especially the left <--- foot, it's like the tip of the toes are touching the ground and he's kinda floating almost.

Orm Irian - Wow awesome progress! You have almost crammed in all colours in the chart in there it looks like. I don't know why, but I think of Wales when I see it. Keep it up!

Cloister - So far it's amazing. The way the the light falls on it looks very natural, and the fur is superb. Btw, who's the blood?

Matt_B - You picked the best creature in your list imo. Try to push the contrast a bit more, making the shadows darker.

Labrynthine - Intresting concept, I hope you'll post more.

cannibalcandy - Candy for the eyes. It looks evil, but it got a halo, so it's semi-evil or semi-good?

Jaro - Saw your final, damn good job with it. Cool creature, and I had to add I really like the way you drawed Merlins face like that.

jspangler - Your creature looks a bit too evil almost imo. But very well executed, hope to see more progress on it.
