Tim M - I like that you're going in a lighter direction. Merlin is many things to many people, and this is accessible to a younger, more playful audience.

Master Stryke - nice progress, he has a benevolent, proud feel now. As though Merlin had transformed a Knight.

The Moody - Very cool creature! Like an Owl that eats fingers - sweet! I'm not at my regular computer to play with focus on mine, but I may play with that before I run any prints.

lkjhgfdsa - I was hoping someone would work the Stonehenge angle.

Jspangler - The text is a nice touch, I don't know if varying the color would help reinforce the difference of each limb?

Nebezial - Really like how you finished that off, looks 3-d! Amazing first cow!

Obacmar - Hope you'll still finish that, looks good so far.

Scorge - You beefed up the color some more - groovy!

Steve Somers - I had considered different colors for different limbs but overall its meant to be one cohesive creature made of one "flesh" but comprised of asymmetrical anatomy. Different colored limbs (even slightly different) definitely would increase the "drama" but I really want him to read as a small dark, twisted creature even if its subtle.

On another note to further address his "evil" nature - The spec did mention that the creature should be partially demonic in origin. Or at least partially of Hell. I really like some of the takes on this but am curious why some of the creatures are so definitely not containing even a partially "hellish" origin.

Overall though I really think there are some excellent creatures going on in this thread.

well, jspangler, merlin wasnt a satanic witchdoctor, he was a pure mighty mage... so i dont understand why there are so many hellish creatures there ^^

    here is my latest version:

what do you say? can i add it to the finals?

btw, thank you for your feedback, this is my first COW and i hope ill get at least some votes

Hey nice work guys! Looking forward seeing all your entries finished.

scorge - it looks much better now when you added that light, more readable features. Good work!

I finished my little creature, annoying the hell out of Merlin.

steve somers, i think i like your creature the most.

this special looking and form of his body is awesome,

the roots and the innovative head-design rule

orm irian, your high detailed nearly alienlike looking dragoncreature is awesome as well.
the glow and the anatomy are well done.

MasterStryke - I agree that Merlin is generally considered a benign mage, especially after Disney made their "Sword in the Stone". But I was referring to the COW spec which uses the half-demon version where he was not such a nice guy.

Tommoy - That thing is cracking me up. Especially the fact that it was omitted from the legend due to its bad attitude.

Steve Somers - Really like the way it turned out. Nice job... very atmospheric drawing.

Jakkas and dwinbotp - come on... you know you will finish and they will be excellent submissions. Keep cracking!!!

Scorge - Also very nice. I like his mischievous nature. And excellent lighting.

nebezial - Nice. Very charismatic... he looks hot and hungry. I especially like the "plating" scales.

lkjhgfdsa - I love that creature. I also weep for time misspent... great concept.

... at work... can't comment on all but I am liking this round.

    finally. . a WIP!

Hey everyone, been busy with other stuff, so I missed the "Satyr Slayer" round, and I'm also not going to be able to finish this one. . however, I'll be back for the next round! Rawr!

great stuff from everyone so far, really cool and some very weird concepts of "merlin's familiar". I didn't know he made a pact with the Abyss, but there you go. As Plato said: "nothing is what it seems to be".

I thought "raven" for a base, with hands to manipulate items and prolly cast spells, and then I figured the familiar should probably look like a raven on casual inspection, since otherwise Merlin's extraordinary heritage would be known.
So I left it real raven like, to be able to act as spy. . and then I read MJ's description closely and LO! and behold! It should not look anything from the real world. . argh!
