First time taking part so there's probably something I'm doing wrong here but-->

*oh and Matt, your comment reminded me, thanks for the crit, it was spot on. I tried to put palm leaves in before but failed miserably, but your crit made me give it another shot, which didn't go out all that smooth either, but it's something!

Here is my final image "Grimiton port"

The port of Grimiton was once a scenic place, after the nuclear fallout it became a excellent haven for captains looking for parts, or crews looking for work... If you can stand the radiation!

here is the link as well, just in case:

    yay, sailing!

    Hi,

I liked the idea of having a dangerous looking approach to a quiet and easy going port. I chose to depict a large rock formation guarding a small and colorfull harbor. To further my idea I thought that this would be a tourist and small scale fishing port given generous shelter by the land.

    Thanks for looking.

Hello, here's my entry. Hope I'm not too late. My apologies if I didn't do this correctly. This is my first attempt at one of these challenges. I definitely learned a lot and had a lot of fun doing it. I wasn't posting before because I wasn't sure I'd even find the time to get close to completion.

"Contrary to the belief of the layman, the essential of art is not to imitate nature, but under the guise of imitation to stir up excitement with pure plastic elements: measurements, directions, ornaments, lights, values, colors, substances, divided and organized according to the injunctions of natural laws. While so occupied, the artist never ceases to be subservient to nature, but instead of imitating the incidents in a paltry way, he imitates the laws."-Andre Lhote

I chose KellyX, Ros1 and Guilefine

KellyX Althoguh the composeition is a bit awkward the Arabian nights ornately luxurious feel of it is lovely, welcome Kelly

Ros 1 has a wonderful space to it, I wish I didn't have to scroll to see the whole image, I know that the expansiveness of a landscape seems to demand a huge canvas, but I does your piece no favors if it doesn't present itself all at once at fullimpact

Guiefine. this is just beautiful. I want to go there and hang out. I would also like to say you are probably changing learning and growing as fast as any artist Ive ever seen in these contests. keep up the good work

That being said, I urge most of you to look to your compositons, your ideas are great, your rendering skilss are good, but your compositional skills need polish. There were a number of pieces here that could have been great, if it were not for matters of flow, tangents and imballance. (which does not mean centered or symetrical) there are magnificent resources on CA to learn these things... I can point you to them if you can't dig them up for yourself.

It is amzingly joyfull to me to see so many of you in here. working, learning and sharing your knowledge , thank you all

we have a winner, in the icon, it;s aphotic Phoenix's tree wrapped around the lil world, which is, I might point out, the one I wanted to use any way.. godd pick
As soon as I get the Go ahead I will start placing them.

oh and Congratulations! EVERYONE GOT THE ICON RIGHT!!!!!!!!!
