That glass is amazingly well coloured, it's just the mid bit that's a bit wrong.

Hey Oneeyedack, nice to have you in the thread - Main issue I see is the saturation levels seem way too high - check out Gnomon DVD - Jeremy Vickery practical light and colour if you can.

An exercise I got in my online bobby chiu class was take a crap load of photo into photoshop, get out your colour picker, guess a colour, hue, saturation, value for a certain area. Then colour pick it and see how close you are, do this hundreds of times and you should get an idea out saturation levels in different areas, and hue relationships.

Never use the colour picker during painting though, spend 1hour getting an area right is better for you than picking it off the ref.

You'll get there anyway, it's a good start

Hi hombrès, was my birthday today so did not have much time for art today. Was busy eating cake n' stuff.

I made time to do this value study at least, I'm quite happy how it turned out (for once). I've noticed I'm learning more and having more fun now when I am taking a bit more time with each brush stroke etc. instead of rushing things.
Tried some texture with my crappy hairbrush on his forehead haha. Didn't really work as I hoped.

:edit: also check this guy out on DA: http://mjranum-stock.deviantart.com/ . Tons of good references there for anatomy, poses, costumes etc. Thanks to Collywobbles for the tip.

    OneEyedJack: Thanks!

To be fair, I really like your enviros. They may be too saturated as someone pointed out, but overall you seem to have a good grasp of PS.
