    Thumbs up Women's legs

I know I'm gonna get flamed for making this thread, so if the mods sees this as inappropriate, pls delete this thread but do not ban me! I love CA so much and this website is my home page. I met many helpful people here and learnt a lot here.

This is a serious thread and IS NOT meant to poke fun at females. After all, my mom is a female too. I repeat, pls do not take offense.

Ok, my mom and sis were discussing recently that women's legs seems to be relatively thicker and fatter than those of guys.
(i.e: the average lady has relatively thicker legs compared to an average guy of the same build as her).

At fist I didn't really believe this, but I've been observing lots of ladies' legs for some time trying to validate this theory and it's true for approx 8 out of every 10 of them. Some would be kinda petite and thin, but their legs are considerably thicker than what it should be.

Is there some anatomy theory behind this? My current reasoning which I came up with is that Nature intended women's legs to be thicker compared to their overall body ratio so that when a woman is pregnant, the legs will be sturdy enough to support them and the baby.

Maybe folks who are well versed in anatomy have explanations?

    Thanks!
    Xeon

I'd say it's pretty clear, at least for the thigh where there's the biggest difference - women have wider hips, so the joint where the leg attaches is going to be a little larger in the big scheme of things. Also, women store fat around their hips as opposed to their bellies (the classics 'this will go straight to my thighs' line).

I heard that they use dudes for stockings ads where you only see the legs.. but that might very well be an urban legend.

From what I can tell female legs taper more. When it comes to drawing "ideal" proporions they have wider thighs but thinner ankles than guys. This adds to the "curvy" look, whereas dudes are built more like straight tubes. This is also more observable in some racial groups than others. For example Asian women tend to be more of a stick figure (thin all over) and black women tend to be more curvy. This isn't always the case, but it is prevalent to some degree and is a good thing to keep in mind when drawing different ethnic groups.

It's true, women have thinner ankles and usually thinner feet than men.

They also tend to have wider hips as was stated before. It can change the shape of the leg. Women also store fat in their hips and thighs and butt, because they need to store the weight for longer term advantage (like winters when they would usually be pregnant in an archaeological standpoint that is) when food might be more scarce. If you want pure physiological reasoning as well, men store fat on their bellies as it is the easiest for the body to burn quickly when they were making hunting marches and running over long distances in the hugely distant past.

Don't ask me WHY it's easier to burn from there, but I remember that lesson from university that was the reason why men store fat there.

Yes women genetically have more fat stores in certain areas then men, areas that are meant to protect a protential baby (hips, thighs, butt). Women tend to have on average 5% more body fat than men. Its not insulting to ask, its a fact.

    So uh...

Why do women have shorter feet than men?

Sexual selection sometimes equates natural selection, I guess. If a society is into small feel it can be expected that the girls with small feet will get more nookie, thus more girls with small feet will be born.

Perhaps because women are usually shorter/smaller in general?

The reason evolution makes men bigger than women is that men who can beat up other men are able to reproduce more... And maybe having big feet is advantageous in a fight.

If it's the joke that I think it is, there's already been plenty of misogyny on the boards. Don't actively try to alienate the talented female members on here.

If it's not that, then my apologies.

    ...so...basically...

the male birth canal isn't as evolutionarily advanced as the female birth canal...

Well, yeah, but both babies and turds have to go through the same hole in the pelvis. If a bigger pelvis allows bigger babies it could also allow for bigger squat-loaves.

I have already gone through what some term a version of childbirth for men : passing a kidney stone (though I am well aware that women can pass them too). Ugh. Never again.

Get a Stapler Hemorrhoidopexy and see what it feels like to squeeze out a normal one with about a tenth of your usual rectal diameter. Good luck and have fun

But for all the effort the end result of that one is not as impressive... I want one where it warrants posting pictures in the "Cheer me up" thread.
