    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook

    Hi there!

Well just before I start: forgive me my terrible english. It may be very wrong some times. I really like this language, even if I am not perfect at speaking and writing it. Maybe having conversations in this international forum will improve my english skills

To introduce myself: I am Agarwaen - some may know me also as Syrenion or Saewherdir - my real name is Lukas, or the english version: Luke. I am 17 years young and a student at the "Gymnasium" (high school in germany). Obviously I come from Germany. I draw since I am able to hold a pencil. I prefer traditional drawing tools, for example the pencil itself or fineliners. But in last time I got closer to my grafic tablet. I am not very good with it, because I have it just since a half year. But I really try to get better
Ok then a bit to the topics of my drawings: I am a great fantasy fan, especially I like high and dark fantasy, and this fact will reflect in my pictures, I think Besides I also am open for science fiction (for example I really like warhammer 40k) and other fictional styles. There are also traditional motives such as the human body (so watch out for nudity! xD), all-day-objects, landscapes and environments and so on.
So enough chatter... I really should present something - I will not post anything I┤ve done so far, that really would be too much - but I will not forget it and show it later on.

A little anotation: I will try to enumerate all my images... just to keep the order and make it easier for you to comment on them.

A classical motive... I don┤t know the english translation, but in german this is a "Stillleben"... maybe someone could help me to find the right word Back to the Image: Its done non digital, painted with aquarell.
    1.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook

Then I let follow a series of Characters. They are all made with pencil.

The first one is a dark elven raptor rider. At the time I made this I really was inspired by Jurassic Park (which I watched the first time just a few months ago!) But I had no references for it... its really just right out of my mind.
    2.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook

Next one: A wood elf ranger:
    3.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook

    And here a female elf:
    4.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook

This is an succubus. It is anatomical NOT correct, I know... but demons are just human like , not the same
    5.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook

Ok... time to change the tools of art - it┤s gettin┤ digital:
    Here come the digital characters:

An elf again. But I really like them It is just a sketch... maybe one day I could make a full painting out of it. But this day is very far - I like him as he is
    6.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook

My latest character: A dwarfen elite double axx warrior from the kings guardians (harhar... what a long title... just a little joke )
    7.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook

And a bit landscape should not be missing...

Maybe some of you know the legend of Yggdrasil... well, this is a very free interpretation.
    8.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook

And last but not least - non digital again:

    9.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook

So far so good... I hope you enjoyed looking at my pictures, and of course feel free to comment and critisize them. I hope to learn from the critics and to improve my skills.
Ok, enough for now... more pictures will follow later.
    Greetings,
    Agarwaen

PS: Really thanks to the member Silwynar (I hope I wrote the name corectly - you can hit me if I failed xD), who showed me this great forum.

EDIT: added a image for a thread icon

So... time to update.... I┤m so sorry for not being able spending some time on updating this sketchbook. Mea culpa. So... it┤s time for new picture stuff. I can┤t talk mutch, school is so challenging (in a negative way) and holding me away from being very active in art. But still I find some time to work on my drawings. So here┤s the picture stuff of the last weeks:

    13.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook
A quick sketch on my pc... i┤m really getting used to digital drawing...

    14.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook
A little try of drawing a scene... the title is: "bounty"

    15.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook
I made this one on a rainy day, and i tried to put my impressions in a picture

    16.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook
I made this sketch and tried to transform the sketch into a digital painting... which is the next picture:

    17.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook
Yep... i must say that the body anatomy is not perfect... the hips start to high and are too big - i really have to watch out for anatomical corectness in my drawings.

    18.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook
A interesting painting which i made for a good friend who wished this motive of an assassin, sitting on a far away planet, playing with a marionette and near him there is a broken hourglass. Well, there is mutch space for interpreting this picture so give it a try i, for myself don┤t know what i drew there xD

OK... so far so good as i always say...

BTW: All my pictures and my latest drawings, actions and other stuff from my life can now be seen on my blog:

    www.syrenion.wordpress.com

sry... it┤s german... but if you wish i could translate something for you... just write a comment.
I┤m really happy about every visitor.

Ok.... then i would say goodbye... cu anytimes.

    Good morning!
    Greetings!

Christmas time - that means: I finally have Photoshop CS4 Student Edition Already after a few days using it I reallly love this perfect program. Well, I used gimp before and I must say, that gimp (2.6) wasn┤t really bad. But Photoshop simply has a greater bandwith of functions.

And here are two paintings (the first made with gimp and the second with PS):

    19.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook
This is an eldar wraithlord. I really like them, not only because I┤m playing Dawn of War 2. The eldar are very fascinating.

    20.
    Agarwaen┤s Sketchbook
And this is the city "Deepgate" from the Book "Scar Night" by Allan Campbell. Oh and what I forgot: this picture is animated - another interesting function of Photoshop.

Ok. I have nothing else what I could show to you so far.
    So, goodbye,
    and have nice holidays!

Hi thanks a lot for your nice comment in my thread.

I have been looking at all your pictures and I think that your art looks very promising. There are some anatomy issues but if you keep up with your studies they will get better. One problem that keep coming up in most pictures though, is that the characters are off balance. I┤m not sure how to explain this but the human body is like any other object, if there are no support directly under the center of gravity it will fall.

On tip that you might have heard about is mirroring your art horisontaly. It takes about a second to do in photoshop. Doing that makes it really easy to see if something is crooked.

I really like the composition in the bounty picture. And the creatures you draw are lovely.

Oh! and the word for stillleben in English is simply still life.

@ Arthurkidd: Thanks man! Hmm... i really should fix that stupid eye^^ Should be no problem with Photoshop

@ Frida: Thank you very much for comment, compliment and critics!
I from myself would not have noticed the balance problem, thanks for hinting at!
And yeah, I know the mirroring... but I simply still forget doing it... shame over me! xD I will really try to improve.
    And thanks for translation

Silwynar: Your wish shall be fullfilled Here comes the new stuff.

At the moment I┤m not very happy with Digital Painting. I mess around some stuff, but it doesn┤t work quite well. But I┤m optimistic with that. Hope, that will be better next time.
So here are some sketches and scribbles, anatomy studies, offtopic pencil drawings and some experiments.
    Enjoy.

Oh my god... this thread is covered in dust. No wonder... I abandoned it for months. Maybe I should get in running again. I also need to do more art. At least I gave a promise to do so. I hope I can keep it. Over the last days I did not draw very much and my motivation is pretty down. So I┤ll show to you some old stuff. I┤m too lazy to upload them all to CA.org, so I┤ll just link them all from Deviant Art. I apologize, and I will do better with new stuff.
    So let┤s just get started.

    So far...
please write some comments and critic. Please tell me I┤m a lazy guy and I should work more. Maybe that can get me back to work, back to drawing something. Even if it just were some anatomical studies or something like that... I have to practice and draw more. Maybe you can help me. I need you to keep my motivation up.
I hope you enjoy my art and thanks for taking a look at my pieces.

    Hey Agarwaen!
Very varied works you got here, the figures are improving by a lot, that last "Random sketch" is looking very good :>
I really like the loose style you achieved in Oktoberdrache, really well done.
I'd recommend you do some isolated studies as well, Hands / Feet and so on so that you'll have an easier time understanding what's going on when tackling a full figure doing something complicated with their hands or such.
    Keep on posting!

Thanks, Edward B I┤ll attend to anatomical stuff again very soon - I┤m getting an anatomy education book for Christmas. I think you are right. My hands and feet (i have problems with feet especially) lack the anatomical knowledge. I┤m going to improve on that.

Got a lot to do over the last days, so I could not really update my Sketchbook here... but well, today I finally found some time to draw a bit.

Here two of the three sketches I made today. An Assassin and an Battle Mistress... I am very satisfied with the assassin somehow... I think he got quite dynamic. I did those two without references by the way.

Assassin is number 45. and Iron Lady is number 46. (I have to find out how to deal with attached images and how to put them in the text or how to manage them... I need to ask someone with and I think I know whom I will ask)

See ya, and thanks for visiting

    Uuuuupdate Uuuuuupdaaaaaaaaaaaaaate! Wuoooooooooookoikooooooooooioiooiooooooo!

Nice sketches so far, but i like the last lady more than the first boy.
The first one (sry ), has a few mistakes.
The dynamic is good, but his left arm (the view from us) looks not dynamic.
You should have put tue dagger horizontical (sounds strange, ich meine gen horizont) and not this way down.
Also the character seems to fall behind every moment, perhaps fix the pose a bit

But expect this, it looks good!
Nice armor and nice daggers. I like assassins (creed) ;D

    Keep it up dude !

    Thanks for the comment, Sil

Sorry... did not update this poor thread over the last few days cause i got sick and spent a lot time in my bed reading some books (i highly recommend George R. R. Martin┤s "A Song of Ice and Fire"). But today I finally drew a lot, especially many of those 30(actually 60)-second-drawings on posemaniacs.com . Here the results and a digital painting I did just for fun.

    Omg!
Update! I will mark this day red in my calender

Posemaniacs are looking really good so far! Sometimes a bit unsure (unsicher) line, but nice!

Only a crit for your digital piece...
    Guy!
Grab your tablet and go making value studies!
Everything has the same values in this picture which destroys it completely
Try to fix it fast, because the pose is really alright!

    Keep it up mate

Little Update... some sketches and a dragon scribble.
Nothing big - i don┤t find time and ambition for a great artwork. And I still think I lack the skill for doing something like that. Maybe I just have a bad time and a lot of unpleasant things to do, so my motivation is down in the dumps.

Anyways, comments and critics much appreciated.

    Heeeeeeeeeeey dude!

Finally you got yourself to update again! Lazy man!
Your dragon looks a bit to flat, perhaps because of the shading. Try to put in more darker areas.
Your posemaniacs are looking great! Sometimes a bit too less movement in them but they are coming along nice!

Keep it up and try to update more often

You seem like you're on the right track, just keep up those studies.

I liked this one. Colour use was well done.
My observational skills may be great but I said nothing about my drawing skills

@ Sylwinar Yeah, I┤ll work on that. Especially the shading. updating frequently... well, I┤ll give my best to achieve this goal

@ My57 Thank you for your compliment Yes, I will keep up these studies - I really try to get some kind of anatomical knowledge.

So here again some pose studies from posemaniacs and some kind of savage chick, drawn by reference. the idea for this girl came from a game I regret playing too often, cause it eats a lot of time: League of Legends. Well anyways, I┤ll try to play less and draw more often

Thank you for tuning in, I hope you like my stuff - comments & critics are always welcome

EDIT: CA somehow failed with uploading my files... so here are they, hosted from imageshack:

EDIT: @ ThomasM Thank you a lot!

nice new figures. A tip for you would be to try and include some more rigid straight lines in your figure drawings. They add a sense of strength and volume to an object as complex as the figure.
