Thank you so much man. I've been working my tail off and my expectations are getting higher and higher. I can honestly say that at the time of each of these updates I was relatively happy. Now I yearn for bigger, bolder, and a just plain better work.
I have just under 2 more years of school left and hopefully, I can be some sort of mega beast by then. haha. Keep checking back. I am going to try to update this sketchbook more often!!
Draw. Draw. Draw
That last study is phenomenal, Keep it up. there is a huge difference between when you started and now.
I was reading the notes on the side of your comp studies. I notices alot of talk about food. Whats that all about... i want to get some cake now...
haha. Thanks for the kind words.
The composition studies are from class where we have to do a quick 20-30 minutes comp study and then find a food metaphor for the image and analyze it. it's a really fun assignment and it does make me hungry sometimes. but mostly they are silly metaphors
Page 1 of an 8 page comic I am working on.
It is a stream of consciousness comic and each panel is completed before reference and the story for the next panel is worked on. Very ad lib. We have a restricted supply of reference and overall. It is a ton of fun
Page 2. This is all I'm going to get to today. I can't believe I botched the 2nd and last panel so bad. Fucking sucks.
Next time. Hopefully I can do some underdrawings and thumbnails. This straight ink stuff is hard
edit: oops. forgot to level the blacks

wow spectacular amount of progress here! Just look at how far you've come since your first post.
Here's my sketchbook!
@Blizzard5291: Thanks so much. It feels like I am getting a better grasp on what I need to do when I put my pen to paper and hearing you say that I have really progressed makes me happy. I am surrounded by so many great artists here at TAD that sometimes it is hard to step back and evaluate myself on what I have accomplished when there are so many people to compare to. Thanks Again
TODAY HAS BEEN AMAZING!!!!!!!!! Seriously. I pulled a 15 hour day at the studio, but the best part of it was that I was in class with Marshall Vandruff for 6.5 hours of it and I was actually DRAWING for about 12 hours today.
This is my third update to to my ca.org sketchbook thread today. It feels great. Today has been one of the best in a long time.
Art. Friends. Music. Home.
Holy Shit. Welcome to the good life
These are two figure drawings from tonight's session. A 20 minute and a 1 hour pose
yeh totally, you totally kick ass!
my sketchbook! http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...97#post3332697
i love the most recent gestures, good line quality to them, long strokes. something i'm trying to achieve..may have to study these
the progression is lookin good, and sounds like you're very happy with the way things are going, so just keep at it, and don't let those obstacles stop you
cheers! i'll be back to see how much more you progress!
@Dope Fiend: wow. Thanks for the huge compliment. I make a conscious effort to make my lines long and I try to pay attention to the line weight. If you want to see a couple of other people who do it really well, then check out Francis Vallejo, Orlando Sanchez, Ted Kinsella.
@Metalfingers: Anything for you Big boy...
Tweaked this still life. I think it needs about 2 passes or so. I really wish I had some photos of the still life or I had access to it at all. This edit was from imagination and I feel that my new strokes are pretty weak and lack real feelings and emotions. Less guttural. btw. I don't know if I made it better.
I just finished off another pad of newsprint so I photographed tonight's drawings plus Last week's drawings. I am pretty happy with some of these. The poses very in time from 30s to 1.5 hours. The other pieces are for anatomy class where we had to rotate a skeleton from 1 photo. So each of the skeletons besides the top left one is from imagination.
Most of this stuff is from tonight's session.
Thanks for checking out my stuff
Like that last batch of figure studies! The gestures are more dynamic than ever. I'd like to see some full bodies, though, including feet. Your sense of light and shadow is getting better, too. The digital still life is good, but watch the pitcher - my immediate thought was that it was supposed to be round/spherical, but the more that I look at it I wonder if its actually meant flattened on the side? Either way, try to make it a little more defined. The edge of the dish, too, is confusing. Is it supposed to be curved, or is it really straight? Just my two cents
THANK YOU!!!! I love getting crits and I am extremely happy you took the time to give me one.
Looking up I see that I often skip the feet. I usually tend to focus on what I feel are the most interesting parts of the gestures, especially when I have less than 5 minutes but you are right. I need to at least hint at the feet and not stop the drawing at the knees.
The pitches does indeed have a flat side and it is not spherical and the base does bow out, but my painting should have convinced you of that. True is, my painting is not defined enough to answer all questions about the shape. I need to keep that in mind.
Again, thank you very much
@ChaosTheory: Thanks! I just have to stay humble, and keep drawing. I always say that practice is always good, but there is a more efficient way to practice. Draw With Intent.
Some eye studies I did for class. I am doing 2 more studies this afternoon. I will post them later tonight... Probably. hehe
Drawings from tonight figure session. I had a bit of an off day. I am trying a different approach that is a bit slower but hopefully when I get a handle on it I will be producing more accurate drawings.
Thanks for looking.
Crits would be amazing.
Here are a healthy amount of images from the past week. I have been pretty unhappy with my work lately. I feel as if I am getting a much better grasp on the issues that I had last semester. My first goal was to focus on proportion and general draftsmanship issues. I am now looking at all of the flaws that are present in my work. Mainly form. I am trying and not succeeding to make sure that my drawings and figures have shape AND form.
[ ] Form <-- Failing
So hopefully I can get out of this funk that I have been in for over a week and get back to making good artwork. Although I don't think I will do ether of those until I can get a grasp on these new issues.
Thanks for taking a look,
