    Hey there,

Some nice stuff in here. I've only looked at the last 2 pages but from what I can tell it seems like you have a nice range and are doing lots of essential studies, like those texture balls. For the most, they look pretty good, or perhaps I should say that you're on the right track but I think you can bump up the contrast on them as well as either doing more research into the material you're trying to recreate or just doing a sharper analysis of the research material you already have. On some of them I couldn't really tell exactly what material its supposed to be despite there being some nice textures on them. The plastic ball on pag 26 (I think thats the right page) needs some more lovin. What I mean by that is that I couldn't instantly read that it was a plastic ball, I had to look at it more closely to tell its plastic. You want your textures balls (as well as any other art you make) to read instantly. People should be able to tell immediately that that is plastic or that that is gold, or stainless steel or kevlar, etc...

Anyways, that's all I got for today. Hope it helps. You've got work here. Keep us updated!

    ART. MORE. NOW.

    Thanks for all the comments.

GEB: Thanks mate. I know what you mean about learning on the job though and that's probably better really since you're actually putting it to use right away and less likely to forget it.

Mr.Pryminista: Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely be more careful with that in future. A lot of those spheres weren't meant to be plastic or anything specific, they were more about learning how reflections appear on a sphere and how the base value/colour affects it, but I guess it should have been a specific material.

Been working on a laptop for the past couple of days thanks to my hard drive dying on me but on the plus side I decided to try the CS6 demo. Next to the usual CS3 it's a beautiful, beautiful thing. Will definitely be upgrading.

Here's some rough work I did for a client that I'm allowed to show. I'm not too happy with how these designs turned out but there was a deadline of 2 days to get a pretty big workload done, including revisions, and the client was very specific about a lot of things. Comes with the job though right?

Also a couple of quickies - a highlandesque landscape and a stag study. Thought I'd go with a more painterly approach to stop myself becoming too much of a CG render machine.

Thanks Nicky. Would love to do more challenges but not really got the time at the minute unfortunately. Maybe sometime soon!

Here's some mini-studies based on photo ref. Trying some new approaches...

Those studies make me want to give it shot myself. Actually, I really should.....

Thanks guys. Here's a couple of character portraits from quite a while ago that have just been released. They were done for a reboot of the SLA Industries IP by Romark (http://www.sla-industries.com)

These were an absolute last minute job with 2 days to do both paintings including initial design sketches, waiting on feedback, doing revisions and also finishing off work for another client. Could definitely have done better on these now I feel, even with that deadline, but might aswell show them...

great sketchbook dude, i like your mini-studies, i'm also trying to work on rendering different textures , and woods are pretty hard for me ^^ anyway, keep up your stuff ! btw, sorry to say that, but i prefer your line drawings characters than the painted ones, i think that for the faces, you should work on the edges a bit more !!

You never cease to impress me Vesh. The whole page is rocking, and I really loved the Helmet at the top, and the Knight character beneath it.

Thank you muchly for the comments. Decided to start some WoW fan art that I'd been wanting to do for ages but needed the kick up the behind from seeing Cristof's latest work (http://www.cgbrush.org/). There's a long list of characters/monsters/places I'd love to paint from that game since most things are so well designed as well as being low poly and open to interpretation. Starting with Akama..

Thanks guys, sorry it's been ages since the last post. Been ridiculously busy. Still not finished the Akama fan art but here's an update of where his face is at, along with a partial Sargent study, and a Sean Cheetham study - trying out his mud pallette technique with a very terrible underdrawing..
