Quick Raggy thumbnail before bed, as he appears in the latest expansion (not that I get to play these days). Might get round to actually painting this one with any luck!

How did I not bother to look through your sketchbook yet! Especially after seeing your Royal Wedding piece (yes that long)!! Way to much awesomeness to not subscribe! Great stuff, mate!

Art is not about competing against others and being better than everyone else, but it is about competing against yourself and discovering your greatest potential!

Been away from Photoshop for a few days over Christmas so did this doodle to ease back into it. It's another variation of Baraka from Mortal Kombat, just with more of a portrait twist. This was just going to be a quick sketch so the design and pretty much everything else is pretty crappy but it was fun all the same.

Also, a Photo (taken with my brand spanking new camera) of some life-scale skull monkeybanks I picked up. These are pretty incredible reference for drawing heads - details on my blog:

Thanks for the comments guys. Quick volcanic thumbnail and a logo I designed for the PPV racing team last month. I don't usually take on graphic design jobs but this one was pretty fun.

It was bothering me that the crappy Baraka portrait doodle was actually looking a bit better than the even crappier old version I did for the redesign a while ago so I tried doing a retro-fit of the new head onto the old body. With a lick of paint it actually looks a bit better in my opinion - what do you think? Damn I really need to get out more..

    Awesome stuff O:
I love your rendering and colors.
The drawings are very cool too, very 3dimensional.
The last one looks a bit weird to me. The face looks great but the body looks a bit weird. I think it's the way the pants fold around the hips and the fact that his tricep is very small.
    Thanks for sharing!

hey, thanks a lot for your kind words, just had to check your sb again - amazing stuff!

    2 crits:
your edges seem to be equal in sharpness on your intire images, take that one for example, it looks great but the edges are a bit boring as they have the same sharpness in the whole image, you could really push your work a bit forward with playing around with that style element a bit more, it makes your work lose focus a bit
on the other hand id recommend you to use bigger brushes from time to time, it looks like you paint the images completely with a pretty small brush, sometimes that makes stuff abit unclear, liek the muscles and trousers of this guy it looks abit liek you wanted to hide that you werent really sure about where to place the folds of the trousers and the muscles of the upper arm and shoulder (hehe when im trying to hide flaws im using extremely big textured brushes, so people might interpret these areas as controlled "looseness" )

clouds and the last enviroment look fantastic 5*

    Ricardo Robles: Ty!
prsnsweeney: Thanks, I still need to work on my clouds a lot more though I think. For the theory I'd recommend readinbg Christof Grobelski's excellent blog post (here)
pixel cheetah: Thanks a lot, will try and post more pencils some time soon.
JordyLakiere: Ty! They were done in Photoshop.
xbert: Thanks a ton - great crit. I'm really trying to vary my edges and touch a lot more at the minute so I'm hopefully improving on that, alsio brush size too. You're right about the baraka character, although I painted everything except the head quite a while ago and it does look pretty awful to me now. I'll probably end up completely repainting it tbh. Thanks again for the feedback, really appreciated, and keep up the great work yourself!
    MightCrawler: Thanks!

Here's a study roughly based on a lotr film still. Still a little too much small brush rework going on but hopefully getting there.

Another environment sort of based on a lotr still, and a thumbnail based on Eytan Zana's technique (plus a bit of messy brush experimentation)

nice clean looking enviros - I like the different value ranges you use. Something I want to practise more - I tend to drift into a generic full range of blandness.

The characters are nicely rendered too! Good stuff. Inspiring.
