    happy new year's eve.

cracked open bridgman this morning.. don't really like his style, but i suppose thinking in the way of blocks really helps to know how body portions twist.

random ppl gestures from last night also.

    my new year's resolutions
-try and keep up with school work
-use my free time productively with what i love to do, art :3
    -balance studies with creativity/imagination

    Keep working at it yah.

For the anatomy stuff, watch out especially for connections between major masses. I can tell what the guy with the ponytail above is doing from a distance, but the anatomy is a little wobbly. Look at some references to see the curves on the hips, and the connection from the back/front of the torso to the arms. It might help to imagine-draw the skeletons over some photos of figures to get a gist of what's going on underneath.

Put some highlights on the painted stuff too. They're ranged around darks/middles right now. Desaturating your pics could help identify what the value relationships are as well.

@YihyoungLi: thanks for the helpful advice Yihyoung. I'll try to do the desaturate practices for values. Will try out the skeleton draw-over on figures as well

@Lav: thanks for stopping by Lav! i'll try to master values in b/w first but i'll try out color values at the same time :3

    quick bridgman stuff.

Woo that environment is really good! Colors are awesome and great approach too--deliciously deliberate and confidant marks. Maybe the photo was like that, but I fine it strange that the water isn't reflecting the sky...o_O

Although there aren't many anatomy problems, the nekkid girl seems kinda flat--excuse the pun--because the value range is really narrow. All the colors are hanging around midtones, and I think you could push the darks and the lights. I find that darks are commonly located under the armpit, neck, and crotch area so maybe paying more attention to that. She could be rounded out more...given more form.

Krillin looks good; the contrast in values make him pop out. But there are some discrepancies. For example the shadow underneath him should be much darker like the shadows on him. Also, I think some bright and dense highlights could round out his moobies, stomache, shoulders, and forehead more.

    Good stuff continue being tenacious.

@Enydimon: haha, i laughed when i read that. yes he was too close to the fallout xD

@YihyoungLi: it is kinda strange that the sky isn't reflected in the water, ref pic will be at the bottom of this post. I agree with the girl looking 'flat', and I really gotta study color values and b/w values more, but thank you for the awesome advice Yihyoung :3 it helps a ton b(^-^d)

random thumbnails and env. ref pic i used for post #131.

here's a long over-due portrait study of natalie portman that i mentioned in post #58 back when i started doing woody's portrait. this is different from my other portrait studies since i'm trying a new approach w/ some custom brush, not really blending anything yet.

@Lav: really? wasn't going for a jetsons feel but that's pretty cool that you think so, as for natalie, here's the end result xD. still needs some correction but oh well .

@ZhouPeng: thank you very much for the kind words zhou. gonna keep on working at it, i really wanna spend time with creating more conceptual stuff, but my work ethic is just scattered atm (>.<")

Whoa, nice updates. You're really sticking too it, aren't you? Keep it up.

That Natalie portrait is turning out really good. And yeah, artist blocks suck.
You're improving, though, I can see it.
