O.K. since I'm not going to out paint anyone here I decided I need to think a little more about the "CONCEPT" and then make the art "work" as I go along. So these prisoners are basically dropped on this planet with no resources provided by their captors to keep them alive. What are the basics they would need to "try" to stay alive? Heat and Food. Hmm. How do they make that happen from what's available. Well...there are certainly a lot of dead prisoners. GOT IT! Giant compost piles of dead bodies. They can eat the good parts and compost the rest and burn the clothes. Anyway here is my initial extremely rough sketch.

    Kryztalis Prison, Iceplanet

"Log#331#-T-33 In Sector 5, was home to a ultimate prison, the prison would walk the surface of T-33 to
avoid seismic activity, that so common to T-33. WP-11 "Kryztalis" was made untraceable, to make sure
prisoners wasn't sprung by the pirate clans that was becoming more
and more powerful, Kryztalis was home to some of the most deadly individuals in Terran space/"

I'm gonna try and jump in on this last minute... probably not a good idea but I finished my COW early.

Anyway I am thinking the concept will be a large spike-like tower that houses the guards and oversees fields of frozen prisoners. Sentences could go for hundreds or thousands of years and the mortality rate would be high.

I'll probably go with the last (colored) thumb.
My basic idea is that the prison itself is thousand of cubes that are connected together, something like a small town (with road pathways and stairways that connect each cube) and is located in the center of six huge tower surveillance pillars ,many meters above the ground...
I need to do some sketches to make the concept more clear before i continue with it...

I had a similar idea, because when I saw this theme it reminded me of the Soviet GULAG labor camps in Siberia. The first ones to get deported to a new site were given nothing and were just told to start building the camp, even though nothing but ice could be seen as far as the horizon. But as an environment concept, it's a much bigger challenge, I think... No fortresses, no architecture...

I am out of spare time so this is as far as I can take it. Can someone explain to me what I need to do to create the icon? This is my first EOW.

Talking Process image - start to finish

I've seen a few people post process images of their work so I thought I'd throw this up in case anyone finds it useful/interesting.

Really liking your post, Mitze... I think all it really needs are some sharp details to bring some areas into focus, and you're golden
