@ abee: "Is there any videos where you go through how you go about painting from start to finish? I have a hard time knowing when to move on in the next step when I paint in photoshop.
    "

    > so far all I have is a video series on how I go from a greyscale image into a colored one. It can be found here: http://www.ctrlpaint.com/store/

I'm just getting started with those videos, so stay tuned and hopefully I'll be able to answer your questions more fully.

    _________

here's a WIP -- it's so nice to do a cast painting again... no 'design' necessary, just straight observation.

I'm getting ready to make a video series all about rendering in black and white -- is that something that would be interesting to any of you?

Hi Matt, thanks for sharing your art-process. I especially like your methodology is very efficient (the result also of course).
Your blog is very good tutorials too, I tried to do one too has a moment, but I was not as prolific as you. Really thank you for sharing all this.
I'll watch it all now :-)

Matt CTRL-Paint is fantastic. I watched them all. I didnt know how to do 1 in 2 of your tricks, I dint even realise opacity jitter was up for grabs- d'oh! I loved the short actions too, theyre already indispensible. and thumbnail variation... the potential is exhiliarating. So thanks
    great work too, obviously

your smooth brushstrokes and the smooth, cleanness of these facial studies amazes me.
i love how you've been able to capture such personality and variety in each one in what appears to be just a few well chosen strokes.

wow, thanks everyone! I'm really happy ctrl+paint has been getting such a warm response.

    Here's a Serge Birault study -- he's...amazing. check out his site! http://www.sergebirault.fr/portfolio.php

I like doing these sort of studies, but it's always a bit depressing. That's how painting outside of your comfort zone feels: crappy -- until you realize 6 months down the line that it's not outside your comfort zone anymore.

I adore Serge Birault! Anyways keep it up =) Painting from my imagination feels crappy, but lately I've just been doing it and hope to get into the jive soon.
