    *new character art & studies*

    Hey fellas!

Here's a few paintings and sketches I've been doing lately....the life studies are done on a laptop in 2.5 hour sessions, and are a ton of fun. I started after watching the James Kei demo, and have tried to stick with it. I must admit, I've been getting pretty addicted to them. Open to any and all feedback as always, hope you enjoy!

Great stuff, Daryl. Love the character stuff as always. The life studies look very good - impressive rendering considering the length of the sessions. I'd love to see some more spontaneity and variation in the marks and colour on those to give them some of that Mandryk magic, though I appreciate you may well approach that stuff with different priorities.

Lovely art man. All of them are awesome. My favorites are the first one (very dynamic and powerful) and the third one (LOVE the design!).

    Very inspiring. Keep 'em coming!

Love 'em, I especially like the figure stuff. I'm curious about your process on those- if you ever got a chance to do a little writeup it would be awesome.

Always love seeing your illustrations and character pieces, nice and dynamic. Your life stuff is looking good, but they just feel too digital. I know that probably sounds stupid cause you did them on the computer, but they tend to lack some life. Being that you probably use the comp more than touching anything traditional, I would like to see some paint or pencil/charcoal. I think it will help you get a fresh perspective and get more "life" in your life studies. It will probably even add something new to your digital work as well, at least that's what it has done for me.

wow, the first one just blew my mind. The rest is pretty good but most of the work from the imagination makes me feel like "I have seen this before somewhere"...personally that isn't a good thing as I cherish a good idea over technique. Maybe that is what you were aiming for, in that case disregard the last sentence hehe.

Every time you post, I click the link with childlike wonder, "I wonder what I will see now!?". You never fail to inspire me hehe.

Thanks for the kick in the nuts!
    Bjorn.

    Great characters. Really.
The battle scene and the soldier really stick out.
And the figure studies are great.
Really top notch stuff. Keep it up.

Very nice Daryl! You always get the right "moment"!
How do you life-draw on the laptop? With a tablet? I'm curious as to what kind of setup these life drawing sessions have...I hope there's one in Toronto, I want to go!
