    The Gods of Rock!!!

A friend of mine and I were talking about the five greatest rock legends of 60's,70's, 80's and 90's and here is the list we came up with...

    1. Jimmy Hendrix
    2. Santana
    3. Jimmy Page
    4. That drummer with one arm. (If he can do that with one arm He must have been A little bit badass with two.)
    5. The Ramones. (what would we have with out The Ramones?)

Were young so so our knowledge of these decades, For the most part, come from video games and countdown shows.

    Who is on your list.

btw don't say all list are different so it does not matter. It's YOUR LIST.
I'm the guy that does his job! You must be the other guy!

No Moon? No morrison? No Townsend? No byrds or animals? Not even a little bit of rotten or vicious? The rolling stones magazine made a collection called "The 500 greatest songs of all time", and even that list couldn't fit them all. Narrowing it down to 5 points my attention to some gaping holes in your rock schooling.

Your list makes my soul weep.

EDIT: Not really, but I think just about everyone on it is over-hyped.

If you're going back to the 60's then the Beatles need to be in there. I'd add in Neil Young too.

    The Beatles
    Neil Young
    Zeppelin
    Bob Dylan
    Hendrix

But five is way too small a number.

That you spelled Jimi Hendrix's name incorrectly and didn't know, or couldn't be bothered to find out, that Def Leppard's drummer's name is Rick Allen is a clear indication that you are not qualified to compile a list of rock gods. Youth is not an excuse. Your selections are, therefore, invalid.

His name is Rick Allen and is the drummer of Def Leppard.

I won't make a top 5 but will give some names that end high on my list of rock music (though some might not consider all to be rock music):

    - Jimi Hendrix
    - Beatles
    - Stones
    - Queen
    - Pink Floyd
    - Moody Blues
    - Black Sabbath
    - AC/DC
    - Iron Maiden
    - Nirvana
    - Pearl Jam
    - Mike Patton (Faith No More, but more for his less known work)

The two bands that will be in my top 3 of rock music (not sure on 3rd one) are:
    - The Who
    - Guns 'n Roses

I prefer some of the other more than those two but when I think about rock The Who and GnR come closest to what I consider rock.

I can see how you can say that about most of them but The Ramones!

I did leave out Queen, The Who, The Doors, Moterhead, Sex Pistols....

Not saying I have any authority on the subject, but these are the ones that stand out to me.

Just five is hard. I guess the term "Gods of Rock" leads me to bring up some iconic acts that are not necessarily the same as what I would pick for a list of five favorites.

    Steppenwolf
    Deep Purple
    Pink Floyd
    Fear
    Ministry

    Gods of Rock (and metal)

    1. Led Zepplin
    2. Jimi Hendrix
    3. Black Sabbath (Ozzy!!)
    4. Alice In Chains
    5. Judas Priest

Zepplin is at the top of the list for there longevity and experimentation to the max. Not many of there songs sound the same so originality goes to them.

Hendrix is by far the best guitar player, plenty of blues.

Metal wouldnt exist without Black Sabbath.

Alice in Chains had easily one of the strongest line ups in rock/ grunge history. Staley was in my opinion the best singer of the century. And Cantrell is just heavy without being complex.

Priest is up for there heavyness. Plenty of power chords, screeching, adn shredding. Halford is capable of singing most anything and there still bangin away in there late fifties.

How exactly do you want to you measure success.

Green Day has had 9 number 1 hit singles on US charts, Black Sabbath/Ramones have had 0... on any.

I think the true gods of rock are douche bags like Edie VanHalen, Ted Nugent, Robert Plant and Vanilla Ice.

Being great isn't good enough, it's about acting like the greatest of all time.
