Icon IDW #115: Duplicator - Sirius Cybernetic Corp.

IDW #115: Duplicator - Sirius Cybernetic Corp.

Topic: Duplicator - Sirius Cybernetic Corp.

Background: Although it's Halloween this weekend, I decided against having a scary topic since most other weeklies already did something with it. Then again, it might still be scary for some to work on it

The theme for this weeks' topic needs a little explenation though. The first part is rather simple: a duplicator is a fancied-up copy machine in basic principle. Put any existing object, creature, plant and/or human (any object really, except itself!) in scanner and an exact duplicate comes out on the other side. You can even set the number of duplicates you want it to pop out!

Notice however that it's a machine build by the Sirius Cybernetic Corp., which usually means there is something intrinsically wrong with this machine (as is usual for any SCC machine). For more info on this company check here:

Sirius Cybernetic Corp. - Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy

    Brief:
    1. Design and draw a Duplicator!
    2. Optional: since it's a Sirius Cybernetic Corp. machine, something ought to be wrong with it -or a miracle happened...
    3. That's it... now draw!

    Deadline: Sunday, November 8

Whahahahah.... this sounds amusing! I'm not sure if I'll be able to enter, but even if I can't, I shall be watching what shows up!

    Red face duplicator wip1

i really like the topic so i thought i do some sketches --- don´t know if i have really time to finish -cause this week i´m quite busy but my idea is to make an ilustration of the open transport-case with all the components of the divice (like an guncase) and add the instructions of how to use it....
would this be an valuable idea ? i never participated on industrial design so i´m a bit unsure...
if this is against rules or not appropriate just disregard it...
well i see that i forgot that there should be the possibility to copy more than one time ..... hm....
just keep insulting the monkey i guess....

    Here's an idea I had.
It might not be noticeable, but I don't draw machiney very often. I have an allergy to straight lines.

A little scriblie from me. A bit heart and polymer clay bead art inspired. Might do this or not.

Hhil: If you hit shift while using the stylus/mouse you get straight lines up and down. A keyboard shortcuts are heaven sent if you use photoshop for any length of time.

    Hi all, here's my WIP...

Help, anyone? How would I improve the colour mood (more sci-fi?) and the composition perspective? Also, I'm still thinking that the detail in the pic's not enough yet...

Thanks for your help in advance!

MasterPete: Currently it looks a bit more like a Chow than an IDW in my opinion. That's easily fixed by doing a closeup of the machine itself. You should check your perspective here too: (see really quick, quick paintover overkill )

Another thing to remember it that only (as far as I can think anywhooo...) if something is glowing, reflecting or emitting light, will there be a halo, and the brighter the light, the bigger the glow. I would think that the focus would be on the scanning disks and therefore more attention could be placed on them by reducing the amount of glowi-ness on the rest of the image. A darker and more saturated bg might help the light 'shine' as well.

Meh... all I can think of in a minute.....

Very nice start, I must say!

I'm envisioning a multipart system. There are scanning and synthesis modules which will look somewhat similar and are linking and expandable depending on the means and end-goals of the Sirius client. Then there's a sort of control center which programs the results.

hey guggemmaneuver, i like it so far
Are you gonna color it eventually? And are you gonna add keyboards and buttons on the programming machine?

Also for everyone, remember (from the openingpost): "Notice however that it's a machine build by the Sirius Cybernetic Corp., which usually means there is something intrinsically wrong with this machine (as is usual for any SCC machine). For more info on this company check here:"

    Here's mine so far

Time to put up the poll for this round. There's going to be about an hour grace period before I close this round...

Edit: Poll is up, check it out here: IDW #115: Duplicator - Sirius Cybernetic Corp. - Voting
