you gonna scan those SB pages in?

Start playing around with making brushes. Now that I know about it I always have my brush options open and do quick changes as I go.

@hücumkedi:Thanks a lot!Yeah, reffed studies would be good for me,I just never find time to sit down and do a few...but I'll try!
@Zazerzsf course, here are the first few(I'll only scan a few pages per day,it takes an eternity to scan with this old piece of sh*t)You're right about the brush controls,I tried it out and it can be very helpful!

EDIT:these hand studies are about 2 months old,but I decided to scan in everything that I didn't scan yet.

Like the pose and the angle from the first one better. The upper body and head position is cool, looks menacing, but the legs position is still weird (or not dynamic enough maybe). I think it's better to spread the legs more so the figure looks more balanced, and spread the wings widely as if he try to "show-off" his wing (or just imagine about a cat when he's cornered, he'd try to make his body looks "bigger". Use the same principle for the figure)

For the 2 months old drawings... I think by now you'd have been improved much in this 2 months, so I don't need to comment it hehehe

@BluezAce:Yeah,I actually liked the first one as well, but it was for a friend/client,and he liked the second one,so I had to continue with that one...But I like the second one too,it's a pose that I've never done before,so it will be interesting....

BTW the client I'm talking about is Paul, the guy in one of the teams that I work with,I invited you to this team,I'm sure we'll have a lot of time concepting stuff!

Okay, there is a storm around here,so I update while I can...Progress,I haven't used any ref yet,so I guess there are a lot of mistakes...I'll finish the block-in first and then use some ref to finish it off...

I think it's really good that you're working on value so much. On your bird creature (which is awesomely badass btw) the work seems to have paid off. Good anatomy on it too. My stuff always feels so low contrast, so this is inspiring me to get my values down too!
    let's see more progress!

MyloDeSopsia:Thanks man!Yeah, handling value+color at once is a bit hard for me,so I decided that I nail down values first, and then move on to colour...I think that I'll try doing colour pieces around the end of September...
And low contrast isn't always a problem, sometimes you need to knock down things a bit to make the painting more lifelike.

Gah,I think I'm developing a phobia for plain gray and withe backgrounds,it's just so booring...So I decided to take this one to more of an illustrational state,we'll see how it turns out..And also,I can't really figure out wing structure...gonna have to look at more reference for that...

plain gray and white is booring? =) You can do so much with it! *grin* and it sure pay off for you. The last one is quit nice! But you can get a bit more life into it if you take light into the shadows. It also helps to get the booring side away a bit.

Keep up the good work and have fun!

@Klaus Reinbach III:oh,I didn't mean grayscale is boring, just the plain colour background
I'll try to add a more realistic and interesting lighting to the painting, thanks for the suggestion!

Hahaha, ok then I just misunderstand it a bit .
I love gray too! White to black is the best! For me at least.

Life's mysterious, man. You don't know when you'd be able to update hehehe

Hmmm... Love this one turned to! Nice atmosphere with the background, kinda "mysterious". Have some good flow with the wings too. Honestly, I prefer this way than if you really render the wings clearly (maybe). The strokes really convey movement

Hey man, you're doing some good stuff. On the last one, you should keep your strongest highlights on the areas the closest to the light source or the focal point. (Around his head/chest) and have them gradually fade away. Your painting starts to look flat if all your highlights have the same intensity all over his body. Hope that made sense, you can ignore it if it doesn't D:. I did a quick sloppy paintover to show what I mean.

    @Kenz:Thanks man!
@Bombur:Thanks for the advice!Yeah,yo've got to be really careful with highlioghts! And thanks for taking the time for the paintover!
@BluezAce:Thank you!(BTW,we'll organize a meeting soon with Paul,I'll contact you with the details!)

    Whoah,these days have been crazy!
Soo,I kinda finished it,I got a little advice from Steven Stahlberg, and I must say that I am enlightened in a lot of areas!I'm probably gonna do an hour or two of little detailing and stuff, but you get the big picture:
Also made a quick sloppy HD background, gonna spend more time on that too...

    Steven Stahlberg? @,@

Nice stuff, mate! I see you detailed the body and made few changes. The figure now appear in a more tough frame (well, looks really like a fighter to me rather than a chronicler). The hands are better and looks more solid with those "big glove" shapes. The wings are nice to, considering that you had no idea how to make wings before hehehe

The left wing still a bit weird though where the wing folded (the part where the inner wing get covered by the outer). And just personal taste, I like the previous wings and the "atmosphere" before it changed (the previous version looks stealthy and nimble, the new one looks tough and sturdy). But overall the last one is much better work than before hohoho

P.S: Okay, I'll be waiting for the next meeting!

@BluezAce:google Steven Stahlberg,he's one of the greatest artists today, and he's really helpful with newbies too!
Yeah,a lot of things changed in the concept, and I'll make some changes according to yours and Paul's suggestions,so we can all be happy with it
Most of the changes are to enchance the composition, but I'll do a clean concept without the enviro anyway,so you can clearly see all the muscles and stuff!

This is some cool stuff man! There's definitely a difference between your earlier work and your stuff now. Keep it up!

Nice work on that birdy guy, man! His right wing looks a bit strange though. I guess we shouldn't see the back of it from this point of view. Or the upper and lower contour should hit the left contour in a more angular way (if it makes sense). Other than that - great stuff. I'd love to see it colored (even if subtly).

    Wow!

Scrolling through the first page and then jumping straight to page ten gave me quite a shock. I had to double check to see if it was the same person drawing.

    Very impressive
