Spreggo's Super Serial SB ( new paintings! )
I've wanted to be able to paint and draw well for years. I went to art school for totally the wrong thing, and in that time, discovered the wonder of taking myself seriously. So now I've decided to really try and do this, instead of half-assing it as I had been until about a month ago. Now that it's for serious, my goal is to have a real update at least 4 days out of the week.
I'm really happy to have a community like this, please don't hesitate to completely rip apart anything you see here ... I need as much help as anyone is willing to give.
Thanks for looking!

You have a good eye for observation, and observational work is the key to everything, imo. Will be watching this!

For today, another skull study, and some Bouguereau studies.

Keep posting! I like your stuff so far. To see some imaginary work would be nice :]

ColorExcursion: Thanks My imaginary work is pretty miserable right now (especially in pencil for some reason). I'm trying to bolster it by working on my observational skills. Maybe I should switch back to digital and start playing with concepts again.
Anyways, here are a couple pages of imaginary doodles just for you.

Jaytea: Thank you I just started doing the single direction thing randomly, and I found that it really let me focus on the shapes of the shadows so I stuck with it.
The digipaint was a quick self-portrait for a group thing, so I probably won't finish it. I'll be doing some more of those, though, when I get around to buying a mirror.
Okay so I decided not to upload every single crappy page I've drawn in the last few days. I think this was the best of them.
I'm having a lot of trouble getting a foothold on drawing from imagination. I think I have really poor visualization skills, or a broken imagination or something. Probably I will switch back over to observational work for the time-being, if only to keep from getting too discouraged.

I think I moved slightly so my nose is twisted in the wrong direction... either that or my nose is actually twisted and I exaggerated it.
Other problems to think about: where is the jaw, and how wide should it be... does it inform the shape of the cheeks et cetera... I also should have judged the turn of the head and treated it that way, I was thinking it was straight on even though my observation was pretty close. I think I got the relative proportions pretty near to truth, but overall I stretched it a bit horizontally which causes some problems. I need to get the basic layout down faster if I am going to get it all to work as whole...
