Is this fictitious? As in you have "$5353.29" on a "trip", or do you actually have to travel someplace? Here are a couple questions for you, to help organize your thoughts.

    1. Where are you now? If this is a real trip, then the places nearest you will be cheapest. It says you're from Norway, but are you there now?

    2. Have you ever been to the US before?

    3. What season will you be visiting in?

    4. What are your interests?

I know the perfect place but unfortunately it costs $5353.30 to get there so there's no point telling you.

    okay, my bad.
    the task goes like this.

you won a competition from a travel company
You get 30 000 NOK (which equals 5353.29 USD) to spend on this trip, you have to buy the tickets yourself and pay for all living expenses.

the only condition for you to get the prize is that you have to plan out your trip in detail and chek up all the prizes, and deliver the plan to the travelling company.
you can stay as long/short as you want. but remember: your budget is not to exced the 5353.29 usd...

and i got abselutly no idea where i wanna go... -.-

Think in terms of culture. Do you want to see San Fran? Washington? New York? If so, what would you do once you get there?

Task seems quite easy to me if you just speak from your heart. After all, it's about what you would want to do, and after that, it's just a matter of checking prices.

TASmith and redscraps gave great pointers to start with, it might be hard to pick a place since the US is so vast and diverse, but just narrow it down to what your interests are.

For ex, if Im a huge videogame fan, my destination would be E3 Expo in California during summer for an entire business week. And then I would just google the cheapest hotels I would stay in, a car rental place, grocery store or restaurants, etc.

thanks for you tips, i guess culture is one of my intrest.. but, as you said. US is vast.. and most people (I aswell) think of Mcdonalds and huge gray cities when someone mentions ''american culture'' which i find... less intresting. and i dont think the native american culture is really treasured anywhere... but i honestly dont know much about that...

but answering ''i took a flight to new york for X$ and then i cheked in at an hotel and went shopping, used all the money and flew home'' seems kinda... wrong -.-

i started this thread because google really fails me, and i thought someone might know of someplace awsome...

New York has been the center of American art from the beginning, and continues to be so. New cultural centers have sprung up since then (California, Santa Fe, DC) but all the best artworks from those areas find their way to NYC. New York is also international enough that it has less expensive youth hostels. For Americans, it's got the best museums in our country. You as a European, have access to a lot of Museums that are even better, if you ever journey out of Scandanavia.

But, besides the MET, the MoMA, the Whitney, and two Guggenheim museums, NYC also has many gallery districts with all kinds of art to see, from every century and every point on the globe.

It's more than you can see in a week, basically. Even if you're dedicated. And, if you go north by train, you get to see New York's forests and national parks which are some of the nicest in the country (mid May's a good time to come. Or June). If you wanted to study some of America's first "Hudson River Valley" artists, you could see Bierstadt's paintings in NYC, then travel upstate to his house which is now a museum, and then visit the places he painted and paint them yourself. Hmm, now I wish this were a real prize and I could win it...

America is mostly forest in the east, and desert/prairie in the west. With lots of mountains. Very little of it is city.
