Walnut: I am going for a hero like proportion (like an amazon). Is it to small even then you think? The drapes, yea I know. Not to good on taking drapes from imagination, and haven't found any good refs. Nor do I have that kind of fabric. But I'll work on it. I don't want to lower her head anymore, course I'm thinking her head is on an upwards motion from blowing the kiss.
By the way, nice sketch walnut. Cossack.. why? If you see winter as a killer, I see the soldier thing. But I really don't know to much about cossacks. Original though.

Been following CHOW for several weeks now and as much as i'd like to jump in and paint with you guys(and I even started one), my current workload does not allow it an well also cause im on a completely different level, of significant badness. Maybe I will have time for the next one.
Just wanted to say afew things
LostFayth Been watching yours carefully and was so happy when I saw it finally had color. I am feeling spring still, even with your autumn colors. Maybe some falling leaves could help?
Lake7less Love the motion, almost makes me feel like I should stand up and start swaying haphazardly back and forth. Is it winter or autumn? She isn't really telling me anything about the season. Maybe I am just unsure of the rules of CHOW but it was my understanding the character needs to personify the season. Take away the background and I see a naked girl falling? dancing?
Anastasky AMAZING.....er....sorry was gawking. This you did just today? That would take me a week :/ I don't know enough about anatomy to tell you if she's off a little. Can't wait to see the finished result
I'd like to say more unfortunetly gotta do some work.

Hey guys, Im pretty new to CA and this is my first CHOW. There are so many great concepts being produced this week. Im doing my best to get a pic for each season finished over the weekend.
Heres what I have done so far this week.
Winter: I thought it would be cool to show Winters rage, so Im going for a crazed Barbarian in the snow, maybe facing off against a Frost demon etc..
Spring: I havent got a lot done for this yet, however I thought it might be interesting to have an elderly character welcoming Spring after the harshness of winter, Im hoping to also balance the image with some symbol of youth and invention.
Summer: This ones almost done, a Post Human Droid Exile taking in a hot summers day on some abandoned colony world, perhaps his mind was originally contained in a fleshier vessel
Will post Autumn soon.
Cheers! Please check out my sketchbook if you have time!

And as promised in my last post here is Autumns WIP
utumn, I want to portray a female ranger in an Autumnal forest. Guess, her pose could have been cooler but hey, running out of time now..lol

@Donna: Thx. I'll try to sharpen the outlines and make it look more plastically. I usually tend to use a too low opacity value -.-.

Got inspired to do Winter last night after watching Greg Manchess' Above the Timberline vid
I still need to fix her up, the legs don't land right to me and she feels a bit like a giant compared to those mountains
But I guess if I work on it all today, I'll get somewhere!

Hey guys, this is great and im trying to keep up on my spare time since i love to have some "me-time" on the computer and paint. Here is an update of my Tree-prancing-leaping-summer-char.
I would love any tips and pointers to help push my work from ordinary thats nice hobby paint to the "wow-factor". Whats missing? Any suggestions on what i should be focusing on atm? I have a hard time gettin my work to look "finished", i keep staring at it and wanting to change something but often feel stuck missing that pzaz.
Keep up the good work guys, i really enjoy coming back to this site looking at people sharing there passion. Very inspirational!

thanks for the crit. finally the weekend has come
October 23rd, 2009 #226
Nev87 Thank you very much. That is a great tip you gave me about the falling leaves. I do regret I won't be able to apply it. I had to finish it earlier on this evening. I won't have room to do it in the weekends as well, because of the amount of homework I've to do. I shifted all the homework to the very last, because I wanted to work on the ChoW. But rest assure, I will change it, as soon as I have the time to do so.
It's looking real good guys. It's been really inspiring to see all of you work so hard

Brixtah, I think adding some more color or warmer shades to the figure will help him pop more, to me it looks as if he blends a little too much with the background. Very bold angle!
Worked on this some more and fixed the hand as per a crit. (The final will not be as tightly cropped).

kovah His legs look a little short to me (unless that's the look your going for) and his spear thing could use more detail. Other than that, good stuff.
Quinn Simoes Seriously badass.
acb Very cool design there.
Thank you everyone for the comments and crits, here's a small update. I tried bending the patterns to the folds, but I don't think it really worked, so I might just drop it entirely.

okay so I caved and just picked one season, I just am too damn busy to do all 4, however, I do plan to do the full Illo just for myself.
Anyway, first pass, Spring:
will be fixing all sorts of things between now and Sunday
“It is enough that we set out to mold the motley stuff of life into some form of our own choosing; when we do, the performance is itself the wage.”
"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed." ~Albert Einstein

Hopefully I can finish for once...

I hadnt looked at my first sketch in a couple of days, so I sat down to work on it then realised how junk it looked but I still wanted something like it, just better. So I started again and here's the new one. I'm alot happier with the overall shape of this one, plus the branches don't look so arbitrary.

its been a realy long time i didnt wrote anything here
etchesofthesun: on the last image, i think that first stage is much better than next two wich looks flat in comparasion. I think that you shouldn't use watercolor only as a base but to keep this natural look by using material that have symilar natural randomness, like schratches spatter or so.
master.mind: i think symilar for you too. Like on the post from 22 if you just clear up some areas of intrest like face and the hood everything else you could leave as it is.
here is the preparation board for my illustration. I wish to do all of the characters to make something integral.
I would be glad if someone could leave a critic,

Ranarh: I'd simplify the folds of her sleeve and maybe make her more girlyish. It's a girl right? Cause for me she kind of look like a boy. It's also unclear how the fallen leaves under her armpit come into play. Does have nice mood tho, feels just like it looks outside my window today.
Anyway, here's an update. Still need to figure out the hands and the accessories. Happy with the fur however.
